Britain Header
Greetings!

With the Royal Wedding approaching next week and only a little over a year to go before London hosts the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, we thought Britain would be an exciting destination to feature this month.

We also have a new team member to introduce this month... we happily welcome Stephanie Francis to our MSR team. She is a champion waterskiier and has spent time working at a luxury resort in Cancun, so has a great understanding of the type of service we are striving to provide our members. She is a great addition to the team and we are sure you will enjoy working with her.

We wish you all a Happy Easter!

Sincerely,

Therese Eley

A Tour of Britain's Royal Hotspots

In honour of the upcoming nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton, we thought it would be fun to feature a taste of "Royal Britain". For our members with Royalist curiosities, our friends at VisitBritain offer the following suggestions:

Balmoral Castle, Scotland

Balmoral Castle near Aberdeen in Scotland is the Queen's private residence. Located on a working estate, Balmoral Castle was a favourite of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The Estate grounds, gardens and the Castle Ballroom are open to visitors from the beginning of April to July.

The Goring

The Goring

London, England
Rumoured to be the place where Kate Middleton will spend the night before her wedding, The Goring is regarded as the favourite address for anyone looking for the quintessentially English hotel in the heart of London.

Back in 1910, O.R. Goring, founded the hotel that has carried the family name ever since.

A man of great vision, O.R. Goring persuaded the Duke Of Westminster to sell the plot of land at the Buckingham Palace end of what was to become Beeston Place, where he razed the Sun public house and a string of cottages to make way for the last grand hotel to be built in the Edwardian era.

5 Things You May Not Know About Britain

Windsor Castle

1. Not only will it be home to London's 2012 Summer Olympic Games, but England is also the birthplace of the modern Olympic Games. Dr. William Penny Brookes, a doctor from Much Wenlock in Shrewsbury, revived the ancient Greek tradition of the Olympic Games when he founded the Wenlock Olympian society in 1850 with his three-day festival of games. The Games became an annual event and included Greek Classical and country sports such as running, football and cricket, but also a competition for "juveniles" and such fun competitions as a "blind wheelbarrow race" or "an old woman's race for a pound of tea". In 1890, Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who is today widely acknowledged as the founder of the modern Olympic Games, attended Wenlock's Olympics and later wrote, "and of the Olympic Games, which modern Greece has not yet revived, it is not a Greek to whom one is indebted, but rather Dr. W.P. Brookes". The Games are still held every year in Much Wenlock during the second week of July, with this year marking their 125th games.
