Well, I recently made my first visit to the City of Lights in April and was able to experience it for myself.
After spending our first two quiet and relaxing nights off the Strip, at the elegant Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa, we then headed down to the Strip for the ultimate Las Vegas experience with 3 nights at the Bellagio. It doesn't get more Vegas than that, right?
I remember sitting in the back of the cab, about 10:00 at night, as we made our way down the Strip to our hotel - the flashing lights bright against the night sky. I remember thinking, "yup, it's just like it is in the movies!"

Our Recommendation
The Red Rock is a fabulous alternative to the busy Las Vegas Strip hotels.  |
Located about 20 minutes off the strip, the Red Rock Resort is beautifully situated against the backdrop of the fiery mountains of Red Rock Canyon, in quiet West Summerlin. With stunning panoramic views from every room, of either the mountains or the glittering lights of the Strip, the hotel is a wonderful escape from the buzz of the city, though still very much alive and vibrant with its own expansive entertainment complex, comprising a casino (of course - this is Vegas afterall!), several food & beverage outlets, a spa, pools, bowling alley, movie theatre, nightclubs, and more... all wrapped in a subdued and classy package. The rooms are contemporary and comfortable, in rich earth tones and soft lighting.
What I really liked about the resort, and would go back again to experience, is their Adventure Spa packages, featuring outdoor activities that make the best of the gorgeous Red Rock Canyon landscape: horseback riding, mountain biking, kayaking, hiking and rock climbing... finished off with a couple's massage in the spa. Love it!
With it's free shuttle service to the Strip and airport, it is the perfect bridge between the vibrant Vegas scene and the stunning scenery and unique landscape of that part of the country.

About 170 yards was all that stood between someone and a chance to stay at the world's finest hotels and resorts. Some opted for a five iron, some a six, but in the end we heard "fore!" more than we entered contestants.
The Discovery Club was proud to sponsor the fourth hole at this year's Times Colonist Open Pro Am at Uplands Golf Club in Victoria BC. As stated by the course, "this troublesome par three leaves little room for error," so we decided to up the ante. If an amateur golfer stuck their ball on the green, their name was entered into a draw to become a member for a weekend. Once informed of our lucrative offer, golfers stepped up their game for a shot at being pampered by one of our affiliates.
Rain, clouds, and sunshine, it was a typical early June day in Victoria. Less than 25% of our new friends were able to pull off the required shot, but everyone had a laugh, usually at the expense of the least accurate player. At the end of the day, we were able to award weekend memberships to a couple of deserving golfers who got lucky in addition to making a nice shot.
The Discovery Club will now extend an invitation to these contestants for a special presentation on how to improve their golf game... Joking. We will get reacquainted with this group and present the Club to them in Victoria over a fine dinner. I'm sure these individuals will appreciate that the Club offers some world-class golf experiences including access to St. Andrew's and PGA Masters packages. The variety of luxury lifestyle experiences we offer is truly second to none, so even if your stroke isn't up to par you will still find something suited to your taste.
