WHAT IS SUCCESS
A poll done by Gallup a number of years ago, asked people what it meant to be successful. When all the numbers were in, the number one answer by over 56 percent of the people polled was "Good Health".
Think about that for a minute: NOT MONEY, NOT A BIG HOUSE or OTHER MATERIAL THINGS, NOT THEIR CAREERS or WHAT THEIR FAMILY WOULD LOOK LIKE..... but "GOOD HEALTH".
I, maybe more now then in the past feel that a healthy life style and good health should be one of the choices that you make. When you young and dumb some of us may have done things that was not healthy.
I remember hearing Zig Zigar asking something like this. Would you keep a million dollar race horse up all night drinking and smoking, how about a 100.000.00 dog, or a 25.00.00 cat or a 250.00 bird? Then he said NO NO you would not. Would you take 250.00 for a part of your body, how about a million dollars for your eyes, or legs....then why are you up all night drinking and smoking.
This brings to mind the guy that went to the doctor and told him I don't drink, smoke, don't eat meat drink milk go out with women. I go to bed at 8:00 and get 12 hr sleep only work 8 hours a day not on weekends. Do you think that I will live to be 100? The doctor said I don't know; but it will surely feel like it.
What I am saying is the good health like any other things that you are trying to obtain, when achieve will leave you like the words to the song "Is that all there is..my friend"
Success has be the journey not a place to stop as you move in life. Out side of Boston a grave stone reads died at 27 bury at 70. This person stopped.
This is what Albert Schweitzer was talking about when he said "The Tragedy of life is not that we die, but what dies inside a man while he lives."
On the other hand is the journey put forth by Whit Hobbs "Success is waking up in the morning, whoever you are, wherever you are, however old or young, bounding out of bed because there's something out there that you love to do, that you believe in, that you're good at-something that's bigger than you are, and you can hardly wait to get at it again today."
This journey though life will be a lot more fun when you know were you are going. You can not sit this one out and wait for the next one, nor can you wait for all the lights to be green before you start your journey.
This journey will not be the same for everyone, some may make a lot of money like Bill Gates and some may be as poor as Mother Teresa and we can agree that both of them are or were VERY SUCCESSFUL.
Almost all the books that I have read about success list three things to help you become successful: Know what your purpose in live is...keep growing/learning (you will not ever reach you full potential) and help others.
If what you are doing for work is your purpose go and learn from someone that is doing it better then you or find a way to help others who feel like you and would like to learn from you.
If what you doing is not you purpose, find it and do it after work or on the week end (this will beat going home to watch TV) Go back to school, read more books put tape/CD in your car (AUTO U), you can learn a lot in the car going to and from work. If you learn 1 new word every day when in the bathroom and work it into you conversations , in a year you would be one of the smarts persons at your job. How smart do you think you will be in 2 yr or 5?
Robert Fritz said: "If you limit your choices to what is possible or reasonable, you disconnect yourself from what you truly want, and all that is left is a compromise."
The Choice...Journey or Stop.
