Winter 2011

Message from the President

M Club is doing great things for Purple Raider athletics! All of the support that you have provided over the past year has been put to great use. This fall, we successfully supported our student athletes in a variety of different ways. Not to mention, we celebrated several of our finest at the Hall of Fame Induction ceremony. I am proud to say that we are able to do more than ever thanks to your continued dedication with membership gifts and support of fundraisers.

Club goals for the coming year have been set such as continuing to provide for the needs of coaches. Another goal is to re-vamp our Hall of Fame selection process. Thanks to the work of the Nominations Committee, under the direction of Vince Obmann '55 and the leadership of Bob Atkinson '73, a new process will be implemented that will ensure that we are collecting current data necessary to ensure our deserving athletes are recognized in the future. This process update also includes enhanced nomination forms that I know will allow for more clarity and be more user friendly. As always, this process is only as good as those using it, so I encourage you to SUBMIT your nomination and supporting documentation today. The process still requires that an M Club member nominate the potential award recipient, so please take the time to do so. All instructions, criteria and forms are available online on our website.

One last goal is to increase the number of ACTIVE members ... if you are receiving this e-newsletter, it is because you lettered in a varsity sport at Mount Union and you ARE an M Club member.  We need MORE active members. It is awesome how much we have been able to accomplish with the few that are engaged and actively serving the M Club now, so I can only image how much support we could provide if more members volunteer their time at one of our events, give a gift and attend the meetings. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, December 1 due to the holidays. The regularly scheduled meetings on the third Thursday of the month will resume January 19, 2012.

Mark your calendars now for our annual Reverse Raffle and Silent Auction on March 31, 2012. It's a great night for a great cause so get your friends and former teammates to commit now to support! Tickets are available in the Office of Alumni Relations and University Activities.

I wish you all a wonderful holiday season,

GO RAIDERS!

M Club President

Hall of Fame Nominations Being Accepted for 2012 Induction

Each year, Mount Union honors a select group of former student-athletes, coaches and athletic supporters with induction into the M Club Hall of Fame. Nominations for the 2012 class are now being accepted, but keep in mind that in order for someone to be selected for the Hall of Fame, he or she must be nominated by a M Club member! Nominees must have graduated in 1997 or before.

There are three categories of membership: M Club Hall of Fame, M Club Award of Excellence and Honorary M Club member.

The Hall of Fame Selection Committee reviewed the criteria used for selection and decided that the following guideline would continue to be used as the basis for selection: 'The record and character of the individual must be so outstanding that there is no question as to his or her qualifications.'

Don't assume someone will automatically be inducted into the Hall of Fame - they need your nomination!

Get Involved - Join Us at an M Club Meeting!

All members of M Club are encouraged to get involved - attend meetings, join a committee, attend sporting events, support with a membership gift and more. Our next meeting is Thursday, December 1 in the M Club Room of the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex (The MAAC) at 7 p.m.
