At the school board meeting on Sept. 12th, Board President John T. Selawsky announced, "The decision to hire a superintendent is probably the most important task our community has entrusted in us...I do want to let people in the community know that the Board will continue its due diligence, and also needs additional time to deliberate. We are going to slow down our process." The Board had previously announced their consideration of Dr. Edmond Heatley's candidacy for superintendent.

Sept. 15th BHS Stadium Dedication Postponed

The ribbon cutting ceremony and open house for the Berkeley High Jacket Stadium, originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15th, has been postponed. This great new addition to the Berkeley High School campus is worth celebrating with our community.  Stay tuned to a future A+ eNews for details on the new date and time for this event. 

New Berkeley Public Schools Biannual Report Released   

 

Our Fall 2012 Biannual Report to Berkeley residents is landing in Berkeley mailboxes this coming week.  You can read about the four E's in a Berkeley Public School education: Excellence, Equity, Engagement, Enrichment and find out 20 Things To Know about our schools.  You can read the PDF version online by clicking on the image.
Parents/Guardians: Increase your awareness about sexual harassment and Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD)  

Sexual Harassment Forum: Wed., Oct. 3, 7-9 pm
Learn about sexual harassment (including cyber-sexual harassment) from legal and mental health experts.  Discussion will include action steps, support for victims and witnesses, and consequences for engaging in sexual harassment.

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) Workshop: Wed., Oct. 17, 7-9 pm 
Learn about signs of ATOD use, effects on the adolescent brain and body, and resources for parents and students from experts. 

Both events sponsored by BUSD Student Services and geared for middle and high school parents/guardians, but all parents/guardians welcome. Please RSVP for childcare (644-6316).

Is your child starting kindergarten next fall? Welcome Fair

If yes, save the date for the Annual Kindergarten Fair:

School Board Elections This November

School Board Candidate Forums are a good way to learn about the candidates and their vision for our schools.  Friends of Berkeley TWI are sponsoring this forum with a focus on services for English Language Learners. There will be an opportunity to ask candidates questions on any topic.
