Longfellow Middle School students help each other be their best selves
Be An Ally - review copy
Be An Ally!
Most middle schoolers just want to fit in and unwanted teasing and bullying can make them feel like they do not.  Take a look at how Longfellow Middle School students are making middle school a safe place to be by clicking on photo above.

Longfellow Counselor Rosina Keren says,
"Peer relations are of utmost importance developmentally to middle school aged students.  Creating a safe and welcoming school, where EVERY one is appreciated allows our students the opportunity to develop a positive sense of self.  Our students feel more able to control their environment. It creates a community that values diversity.  Positive school climate allows students to also focus on their education, without the stress that bullying adds to student's mindset."

Berkeley Symphony shares stage with students
Berkeley Symphony Conductor Ming Luke leads the I am a Performer Concert

The Berkeley Schools are alive with music!   The I am a Performer Concerts produce a co-mingled stage where our budding elementary school musicians perform with the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra. This thrilling experience is the result of resources and commitment from the BUSD Visual and Performing Arts Program, the Berkeley Public Education Foundation and, of course, the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra's Music in the Schools Program.

The Symphony visits all eleven elementary schools for a Meet the Symphony Concert in the fall. In February, students in Kindergarten through fifth grade at six schools play or sing with the Symphony in the I am a Performer Concert. The following year students at the other schools then get their turn to become the performers.
