Parent Liaison Program Under Development
Parent liaisons help schools and families connect to support student success. Only a few of our schools currently have parent liaisons working at the school site. Through the community work on the 2020 Vision, the 2011 Communications Study, and parent surveys, and in reviewing the research, it became clear that resources for parent engagement would have a greater impact working with families in the schools. Presentations on the proposed Parent Liaison Program model for our district will be made to various school and community groups to gather family input. Send an email to mayahernandez@berkeley.net for more information or attend the presentation being held in the Longfellow Library at 6:00 pm on Dec. 13th.
More information on the development and implementation of the Parent Liaison Program is available on our website.

Solar Master Plans for East Bay Schools were applauded at a press conference November 14th. They plans pave the way for renewable energy systems in the Berkeley, Oakland and West Contra Costa School Districts. Solar energy reduces utility bills for our schools, frees up money for the classroom, cuts harmful emissions, and serves as a lesson to kids about the power and future of renewable energy. Read the full blog post here and learn more about the work to bring solar panels to Berkeley Public Schools. |

Project Labor Agreement
On October 12th, the Board of Education approved the Project Labor Agreement with the following goals:
- Promote the efficiency of construction operations in the vast majority of the Measure I New Construction and Modernization Projects;
- Provide for peaceful settlement of labor disputes and grievances,
- Promote the public interest in assuring the timely and economical completion of the Projects, and
- Increase training for Berkeley students and employment opportunities for Berkeley residents in the construction trades through apprenticeship and pre-apprentice programs.
In signing this agreement, the district is placing a high priority upon the development of programs for the recruitment, training and employment of local area residents and to prepare its students for lifelong careers and continuing education. Local apprenticeship programs provide meaningful and sustainable careers in the building and construction industry. This is an important piece of recent efforts by the District to make Career Technical Education opportunities available to students through Berkeley High School and the Berkeley Adult School.
