New Safety Measures - BHS
It's not hard to notice that with the start of the new school year there are several new security measures in place at Berkeley High School. Here are just a few of the most visible ones: - New "Visitors" entrance with signage on Allston Way requiring check in at the front desk;
- BHS student IDs carried by all students at all times;
- Security officers and campus monitors donning uniforms and monitoring the reduced entrances and exits;
- BPD School Resource Officer on campus every day.
And some that are not so visible but equally powerful: - Students participating on the School Safety Committee with positivity and pride;
- Five students on planning committee of eleven working to implement an anti-bullying curriculum;
- Immediate reporting of robbery on campus to Berkeley Police;
- Gun and violence prevention education in advisories this fall.
When asked about the new changes, Claudia, a sophomore at BHS, nonchalantly remarked, "I think it is good that we have more security guards getting students through the gates and to classes on time. Honestly, I have not been impacted by the changes."
