Don't miss the first full exhibit of encaustic work in Santa Cruz County! Curated by Wendy Aikin and Daniella Woolf, this exciting exhibit showcases 77 contemporary artists working with "wax" (encaustic medium) which is a combination of beeswax, damar resin, and pigment. The word 'encaustic' comes from the Greek word enkaiein, meaning to burn in, referring to the process of fusing the paint first used by artists over 2000 years ago. Today's artists have found many new and exciting ways to utilize this versatile medium, including printmaking, collage and sculpture.

Participating artists in this juried exhibit include many of your local favorites as well as those who have sent their work to us from as far away as Alaska and Germany. You will be amazed by the diversity of artwork on display - the processes, techniques, and subject matters demonstrate the scope and range of this exciting luminous material.

Thank you to Wendy Aikin and Daniella Woolf for curating and jurying this fabulous exhibit!  Many thanks go out to our exhibit sponsors: Wax Works West, International Encaustic Artists, Evans Encaustics, R & F Paint, and Enkaustikos.
