6th Annual Cypress Bend

Educational & Recruitment Conference

Med Job Louisiana, North Louisiana AHEC, Central Louisiana AHEC and LSU Health Sciences Center - Shreveport's Department of Family Medicine, hosted the 6th Annual Cypress Bend Educational & Recruitment Conference October 28th and 29th at the Cypress Bend Resort in Many, LA.  This 2 day event is held to provide an avenue for faculty to present information about primary care medicine and instill knowledge that will have a positive impact on patient care.

Throughout the two days, the attendees had the opportunity to sit in on lectures provided by the faculty as well as visit with the many exhibitors during the recruitment receptions.  There were 14 facilities eager to speak with the nearly 80 residents, faculty and medical students about their organizations and practice opportunities.

Resident Poster Presentations

One of the highlights of the conference is the Resident Poster Presentations.  Friday evening, the resident attendees had a chance to show off their research projects they had been devoted to for the last 8-9 months.  They began by submitting their chosen topics to the IRB (Institutional Review Board) for approval.  Once approved, they could begin their research.  Residents were strongly encouraged to expand their research and submit for publication.

The posters were judged anonymously based on 3 criteria: originality, relevance to target audience, and validity of content.

Twenty-nine posters were submitted and recognition was given for first, second, and third place.  Congratulations to Dr. Susan Foster for placing first with the topic of "Etomidate and Septic Shock".  Second place was awarded to Dr. Chris Killer's presentation on "Accidental Aspiration of Snake Venom" and third place went to Dr. Hung Chung for "Article Review: Doses and Routes of Administration of Systemic Corticosteroids in COPD Exacerbation in Hospital."
