Here at 4 D Acres, while we can't use their slogan, we do put quality first in care of our emus and our products.

It all begins with the feed for our birds.  We do not feed "off the shelf" ratite feed as most of it is developed for other ratites such as ostrich.  Emu don't tolerate a "high fiber" diet as the food they eat in the morning has passed thru by nightfall.  Thus we only have 8 - 10 hours for our birds to obtain the nutrition they need for optimum performance.  Our feed is a custom grind consisting of wheat, corn, milo, soybeans, alfalfa, minerals, vitamins and fish meal.  All this is ground together and then run thru a pelletizer so that the birds receive their complete nutrition with every bite.  Our birds are also fed free choice which avoids bingeing and thus passing some of the feed right on thru.  Fresh water is before them at all times even in the winter when you would think they would not need so much.  Quite the opposite - this helps to keep them warm.

We have the oil refined using the physical refining process and the reason for this is - ie. molecular distillation is used to strip tocopherol from soybean oil.  Since we do not know what the "active" ingredient is in emu oil, we certainly do not want it removed.  Once our oil and emu oil products are packaged and arrive here at the farm - we place it under refrigeraton.  This is done to extend the shelf life of the oil.  Shelf life on the oil from the refinery is 2 - 3 years at room temperature, thus giving you the customer an extension on the oil you purchase and the freshest product possible.

We offer all three grades of emu oil.  Grade A emu oil meets the International Trade Rules for emu oil.  While color is a factor and yellow oil can meet these trade rules, we here at 4 D Acres place any yellow oil into the Grade B catagory.  Grade B emu oil does not meet the Grade A guidelines, as it may be to high in moisture, peroxide value, color, etc.  Grades A & B are fully refined.  Grade C emu oil is emu oil known as crude emu oil, thus emu oil that has been rendered but not refined.  Refining does not hurt any part of the oil but does remove any toxic materials such as heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, insecticides.

While we do not use these around the birds, and the only fertilizer we use on our pastures is "AgGrand", an all natural kelp based fertilizer sold by Amsoil, we cannot control drift or what falls out of the sky.
