4 D Acres Newsletter
September 2011
Hello from 4 D Acres

September has just started and it is a busy month already.  We are taking 10 emu in to the processor on Monday the 12th.  What this means is that we hope to have ground emu available at the Farmers' Markets in Overland Park and Merriam on the 17th.  And it also means that we should have bones for your dogs available then as well.  It would behoove you, if interested, to call, email or order online now as it is first come first serve.

Speaking of busy - it has been a very busy summer and in order to have more time to get work done on the farm we are going to cut back on markets and shows that we do.  This winter Mike will not be at the Wichita, Topeka or Kansas City Farm shows.  Also we will not be at the Overland Park Farmers' Market nor the Merriam Farmers' Market next year.  We will continue to try to do some type of venue in or near those locations but remember we do ship emu oil and emu oil products by US Mail with no shipping/handling charge levied on you, our customer.

Mike & Dee are talking about opening the farm for tours/visits on the first Saturday of each month, April through November - Watch this newsletter for further details.

Mark your calendars now for the annual Miami County Fall Farm tour on October 15 & 16.  Tour stops this year will include three wineries, a pecan farm, beef ranch, heritage pork producer, possibly a sheep producer and of course our own emu farm.  Make plans to attend now.  Call or email for a brochure to be mailed out to you.

Tamale Wizard
Tamale Wizard in action

Tamale Wizard

Do you like tamales?  Tacos?  Well you are in for a treat when you buy Tamales or Tacos from the Tamale Wizard.  Owned and operated by Bruce and Susan Swabb and sons - you can find them at the Overland Park Farmers' Market on Wednesday and Saturdays.  Besides this location they also have bookings at private parties, fundraisers, etc.  While we think their tamales are great, Mike has their breakfast taco on Wednesdays - egg, chorizo and mango/banana salsa is his favorite.  The breakfast tamale is worth a trip to the market and very tasty

Try the chicken tacos and chicken tamales as the chicken is supplied by 4 D Acres.  YUM - YUM!!!

Have a suggestion? a recipe? a question?  comment on what you would like to see in our newsletter.  Please feel free to contact Mike or Dee   We would love to hear from you. Don't forget to forward this to your friends.

Sincerely,

Dee & Mike Martin
