Hello from 4 D Acres

8 oz & 12 oz - Regular & Jalapeno/Cheese Summer Sausage NOW AVAILABLE

Thanks to all of you who were able to make it to our farm on the Miami County Scenic Farm Tour this past month.  We enjoyed meeting new people and renewing old friendships. The weather cooperated beautifully that weekend - then turned cold and rainy the rest of May or so it seemed.  This past holiday weekend it warmed up again - won't be long before we hear "it's HOT".

Many thanks to all who called when they saw the news about the tornado in Louisburg.  Only minor damage was done and thankfully no one was hurt.  It did not harm us or our property.

Effective July 1, 2011 we are going to have to adjust the prices on some of on our products.  We have held off as long as we possibly could but we can no longer absorb the increases in feed, utilities, fuel and shipping.  We constantly continue to strive to bring you the very best products at the best price.  Free shipping will continue on all emu oil products as well as monthly specials.

You can follow the progress of two of our newest breeder pairs; Barney and Thunder as well as Oscar and Betty on our Facebook page: 4 D Acres Everything Emu.  We are trying to add new photos (check out the newly hatched chicks) and soon to come will be video.  When visiting our Facebook site be sure to sign up as a "Fan" so you don't miss out what is happening on the farm.

The chicks we hatched out in late April and early May are growing like weeds.  Emu do grow fast and will be at 75% of their adult height and weight in as little as 7 months.  Hopefully by the middle of June we will have even more arrivals.

For those of you who shop with us at either the Overland Park Farmer's Market or the Merriam Farmers' Market we have added an extra coupon for you to save some money on our Free Range Frying Chickens.  These chicken weigh between 3 and 4.5 pounds and are great smoked, split in half and grilled, cut up and fried/grilled, and even baked.  On Memorial Day we cooked one in the crockpot.  They are so delicious and juicy no matter how you fix them.  If you wish to pick up your chickens at the farm, please call for an appointment.

An interesting site - www.influenSPHERE.com/blog This young lady, Mike's oldest daughter, writes a daily blog about 100 stamps/100 days.  Quite a feat in this electronic age.

Derma 50

Derma 50

Derma 50 is a unique skin care supplement derived from "all natural" ingredients that have been combined with the remarkable transdermal effects of emu oil. Derma 50 has no equal.

At present, other wound care and rash relief preparations that are available on the market contain chemical ingredients...and the reason for this is the cost! It is far less expensive to formulate and manufacture over-the-counter products that contain chemical ingredients, because the technology and manufacturing are quite simple. Also, the "chemical" formulations on today's market are not as effective because the zinc oxide is blocked by synthetics, resulting in less effective healing.

The raw ingredients used in Derma 50, such as surfactants (oils), thickeners, preservatives and antioxidants, originate from all natural sources. Many are natural derivatives of products from Germany, France, Italy and other European countries. ...Only the best ingredients available are used.

DERMA 50 is safe for persons of all ages. From diaper rash, to burns, to bedsores, to poison ivy, this unique formulation will truly enhance the quality of life.

Apply two to three times daily. DERMA 50 will significantly hasten the healing process and reduce scarring. 4 D Acres will always guarantee your satisfaction or your money back.

ZINC OXIDE has been used for many years in the treatment of literally hundreds of skin disorders. It contains a mild astringent and antiseptic action as well as an anti-fungal agent and is an effective preservative. Zinc is an essential mineral for healthy skin and Zinc oxide is made from zinc ore that is mined from the earth and purified for use in many skin treatments. SULPHUR is a very effective germicide and fungicide that is used for many skin disorders. Will also kill bacteria on or in the skin. TEA TREE OIL contains broad-spectrum anti-microbial and anti-fungal activities, with perfect penetrating properties and low incidence of skin and irritation sensitivity. SALICYLIC ACID is derived from the bark of the American Aspen tree and acts as a transdermal agent through the tough layer of the skin. CAMPHOR produces a mild local anesthetic action. CHAMOMILE is a softening agent for the skin. MENTHOL a small amount is used to help relieve itching. ALOE VERA is used for fast acting pain relief. EUCALYPTUS OIL is used as an anti-inflammatory agent and also stimulates skin metabolism. VITAMIN E is an excellent antioxidant.

Recipe

Here is a crock pot recipe for those 6 oz emu steaks.  Easy to do.  This recipe comes from Melissa Crane of Marlow, OK and can be found in the American Emu Association official cookbook, Emu - Life Just Got Healthier.

Crock Pot Pepper Steak

1 lb emu steak cut in 3 x 1 inch stips

1/4 c. soy sauce, low sodium

1 c. chopped onion

1 clove garlic, minced

1 tsp. sugar

1/4 tsp. pepper

1/4 tsp. ginger, ground

1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes with liquid, cut up

2 large green peppers, cut into strips

1/2 c. cold water

1Tbsp. cornstarch

Brown meat in non-stick skillet sprayed with cooking spray.  Transfer to crock pot.  Combine soy sauce, onion, garlic, sugar, pepper and ginger.  Pour over meat.  Cover and cook on low 5 hours.  Add tomatoes and peppers and cook for 1 more hour.  combine cold water and cornstarch to make a paste, stir into liquid in crock pot and cook on high until thickened.  Serve over cooked noodles or rice.
