Hello from 4 D Acres

Winter is in full swing as some of you have already experienced.  Snow, snow, and more snow - we had a warm-up over the weekend and so 99% of the snow is gone but the weather forcasters are calling for 5 - 25 inches of snow to arrive Feb. 1st.  Right now the heaviest should be to our south but still we are in the 12-18 inch area.  Lucky the birds have their shelters and will be just fine.  Sure wish the weather would be like when the picture on the right was taken.

During the winter months we enjoy a lot of emu chili - warms us up while tasting good.  Just take your favorite chili recipe and substitute ground emu for whatever meat you have previously used.  We do ship - contact us for prices and details.

On the 17th of January we lost our largest hen.  Mike went out that evening and found her in their building dead of a broken neck.  We are not sure what happened or how.  What is really strange is the fact that this hen had laid a very small egg just about 10 days prior, about the size of a large goose egg.  We were curious as to whether she was finished laying for her life as she has been laying very well for the last 12 years.

Hens can be productive for up to 20 years so she may have laid all her eggs that she was going to be able to produce.

Such is life on the farm and in a few months we will have life born as we start hatching baby chicks.

Tip:

On these cold winter days Mike does not like to stand outside and grill yet we still like to use our grill in the winter.  He has found out that if he sets the grill temperature at 200 degrees and places a whole frozen chicken (about 3.5 - 4 lb) on the top rack of the grill - it is done, juicy and ready to eat after 2 hours.

Testamonial:

I've been meaning to take some [facial cream] to the aesthetician at the skin care clinic, she was impressed with my skin (I've used the cream for about 6 months and she says it's very elastic "or my age" which is 53 <:). Anyway, thanks much!!   I also use the super-rich moisturizer and actually like that as well or better!
