Emu egg in Dee's hand
Emu Egg in hand
Green Eggs & Ham
was a children's story by Dr Suess.  Was the emu egg the basis for his story?  We don't know but we do hear that alot when customers see these green eggs.

What are they used for? This is a very common question at market and at shows where we have blown emu eggs for sale.

Yes - these eggs are edible.  Very tasty in fact, lighter and flufflier than a chicken egg.  A chicken egg that is sold in grocery stores weighs about 60 grams whereas emu eggs on our farm range from 600 - 750 grams.  So one emu egg will equal 10 - 12 chicken eggs.  Great scrambled, in an omlet or used in baking.  When we blow an emu egg we save the contents - 1/4 cup = 1 chicken egg.  Freeze them in a zip lock bag and add sugar if the egg is to be used in baking and salt if the egg is to be used for omlets, scrambled, etc.  Just go to the freezer to get an egg the next time you do some baking.

The empty shells are used in a variety of ways.  There are 7 layers to the egg shell with three colors of green, then light blue, then white.  Dee uses a high speed engraver to carve different pictures and scenes into the eggshell.

The eggs can have scenes painted on them either in oil or acrylic.  Faberge jewelry boxes, shadow boxes, filigreed into night lights, set one or two in with plant or use a basket full to decorate the kitchen or dining room table.  We have even sold blown eggs to be used as business cards.

If you have no artistic talent they can even accept decals very easily.

Fresh eggs are laid on our farm from November through April each year.  We decide on how many eggs we want to incubate, sell some fresh, and blow infertile eggs for crafting.  If you purchase a fresh egg we can even instruct you as to how to blow the contents out and still have a whole egg shell with just one 1/8 inch hole in it.

Hello from 4 D Acres

Summer is definitely in full swing this year.  Hot, humid and wet are words we use a lot this year.

To keep the emus cool we do sprinkle them down with the hose - they love it.  They then flop down into the mud and then get up and shake like a dog. Mud and water everywhere, so Dee doesn't wear her good chore clothes.

Mike is kept busy with mowing pasture, attending farmers markets, shipping orders, attending various meetings with his involvement in church, Farm Bureau, and agritourism in the county.  He even cooks a meal for us on some of the days he doesn't have market.

Dee is busy raising the baby chickens, feeding and hosing down all the emu and llamas, mowing the yard plus the regular household chores.  Does Mike ever mention how grateful he is to have found such a wonderful woman.  You bet he does!

Equine Aide & Rusty's Refined Emu Oil
Rusty's Refined Emu Oil - 2 oz
Rusty's 2 oz emu oil

Rusty's Refined Emu Oil and Equine Aide are grade B oil, which means that it is refined but does not meet the international trade rules for a grade A oil.  Perfect for animal use.

Rusty's Refined Emu Oil:
Aid to diet - apply a small amount to feed to give the animal the essential fatty acids that are not normally found in commercial diets.  For every 10 pounds of body weight, add a couple of drops and mix with food.

Hot spots, scratches - Treat affected area with a drop of oil, massaging gently into the area.  Use care to restrain the animal from licking the area until the oil penetrates the skin.  It only takes a small amount and should be absorbed by the skin in less than 2 minutes.

Sore joints, muscle aches - Massage a small amount into the joint or muscle using the care as outlined above to keep the animal from licking the oil until it has penetrated the skin.

Hair care - Add emu oil to your favorite pet shampoo to restore the beauty to the coat.  Use ½ oz of oil to 8 oz of shampoo.
Available in 2 oz and 4 oz.

Testimonial:"Every evening upon getting ready for bed, Hawkeye, our house cat, would not leave me alone until he had a drop of emu oil fed to him on the tip of my finger.  His coat is so beautiful since I started this routine." D.N. - Kansas

Our dog ZAPATO is a large black and silver German Shepherd and Lab mix. We were told she was allergic to the saliva in flea bites, so every time she was bitten it caused a large red bump. Her vet put her on medication for 2 months and finally the bumps were gone. But then we had another problem, the medication had left her skin dry as toast, and she had huge white flakes in her fur. It looked like a very bad case of dandruff. What her vet sold me didn't work, and the biting and scratching got worst. Then I remembered buying Rusty's Refined Emu Oil and started using it on her problem areas. It calmed her skin down immediately and gave her much needed relief.
Now after 3 weeks here dry skin condition is gone and so are the white flakes. ZAPATO's coat feel like silk and is in beautiful condition. I used a small amount of oil and rubbed it in with my fingers by giving her a puppy massage. Thank you Rusty and Mike - CL & ZAPATO TOO Merriam KS

I want to thank you for letting me know that the Emu Oil would be safe in treating my cat (Angel's) wound. She was hurt and I found out late in the evening. I noticed she had a lump on her side, when I went to investigate the wound erupted. I cleaned her up and she was not happy. After calling you I put Emu Oil on the wound and the next morning it was healed. What a miracle. I was already convinced you have a great product, but after this it was confirmed beyond belief. I saved a lot of money and worry by using the (Emu) oil and it was easier on Angel. She is not fond of the ride to the vet. Thank you! so so much! - S.T. Shawnee, KS

Testimonial: - We raise Missouri Foxtrotter Horses, 72 at current count, and this last spring found out just how great Emu Oil is. One of our mares had a problem with birthing and the baby couldn't get out. When we found her, the foal was dead; we had to remove the baby by pulling it out. Needless to say this poor mare's back side was in really bad shape. Mike of 4 D ACRES mentioned the Emu oil to me & I thought let's give it a try. We rubbed it onto her twice daily & within a week she almost looked back to normal. I was amazed at how well it worked, we have used many things to help the horses repair themselves after they are injured & this stuff worked better & quicker than anything else I've used. Thanks, - S. Q. Spring Hill, Kansas

"At the Farm and Ranch Show this week I learned for the first time of emu oil, and the benefits it can have for cuts on horses.  I decided to buy some to have on hand, just in case. Unbelievably enough this very Friday our 8 month old filly didn't like that we moved her mother to another location. One of the benefits for doing this was to try to wean the filly. But she panicked tonight and jumped the neighbor's fence that is chain link with a hot wire and barbed wire on top. She received about 6 different very large gashes across her chest and above her leg. I called our vet but could not get a hold of anyone. I thought of the emu oil that I had just purchased. I applied it with a Q-tip, but I wanted to confirm are we supposed to do anything else besides apply it twice a day? How much of it are we supposed to try and get into or onto the cuts? The timing of all this I whole heart believe it's nothing short of a miracle. The Lord's guidance was definitely involved in the decision to purchase the Equine Aide. Thank You, - I. B.
