USDA AJC Cash Price Reporting
A component for the success of AJC futures is dependent on viable cash price information that is publicly available, reliable and not prone to market manipulation. Since the USDA's mission is to facilitate the competitive and efficient marketing of agricultural products, MGEX enlisted Market News Branch to report cash market prices. In September 2010, Market News Branch adopted the permanent reporting of AJC prices as part of the National Apple Processing Report. Participation in this program is voluntary and confidential. Transparent cash prices are important to the success and sustainability of the AJC futures contract because they provide a means for all participants to monitor the relationship between cash and futures markets.
Market News Branch works with various AJC processors, buyers, brokers and suppliers on a weekly basis to collect AJC prices offered mostly to importers at various east coast U.S. entry points. Additionally, the report includes information on prices for apple varieties, shipments, as well as quantities utilized in the processing of apples on a weekly and yearly basis.
The following AJC information is reported on the most recent National Apple Processing Report as of March 17, 2011.
