The Advance Releases 10-Fold Tool-Kit

To help churches share the work of the United Methodist Church across the world the General Board of Global Ministries has released details for this year's 10-Fold online event. With new United Methodist projects being featured and a more streamlined way to become an advocate to help secure support, The Advance wants to reach out to more people earlier and continue to raise awareness of the important work being done around the world. To make things easy, they have created the 10-Fold Toolkit with all the information you need to know about 10-Fold and suggestions for how you can spread the work to your conference, church, family, and friends.
While 10-Fold begins on October 10, sharing information about how to be a part of it can start today-in your church newsletter, an email, through social media, or on your website. Click here for a downloadable copy of the Toolkit. To learn more about 10-Fold visit the Web site at www.10-fold.org .

Interfaith Witness Supports Medicare, Medicaid
More than 50 faith groups issue statement of principles to guide administration, Congress in budget deliberationsMore than 50 interfaith organizations sent a statement today that emphatically urges the Obama administration and Congress to protect Medicaid and Medicare in their budget negotiations. The statement from faith leaders representing millions of Protestants, Catholics, Jews, Muslims and Buddhists emphasizes that the two programs provide critical health-care for the most vulnerable in U.S. society.
Medicaid provides comprehensive health coverage to low-income persons, the elderly and people with disabilities. It ranges from paying for nearly 40 percent of births to funding long-term care of seven out of 10 nursing-home residents.
Medicare is the primary source of health insurance for the nation's seniors.
Endorsers of the statement represent both national and state organizations. Other endorsers are being sought to add their names as individuals or as organizations to the statement.
The faith groups cite "shared" principles they urge elected officials to consider.
Each person should be afforded health, wholeness and human dignity.
All individuals deserve equal access to quality, affordable, inclusive and accountable health care.
The social safety net, including health care, must be maintained to reflect our shared commitment to protecting vulnerable populations.
Concern for the most vulnerable is at the heart of our sacred texts and an affirmation of our common humanity.
Caring for our elders demonstrates how we value our responsibility to enable living out the fullness of life.
"Reducing health-care options for some based on any of these factors is profoundly unjust," the faith groups declare.
The statement points out that Medicaid and Medicare address these shared principles and "help fulfill our moral obligation" to the most vulnerable members of society.
The guiding principles were coordinated by the Faithful Reform in Health Care Coalition and the Washington, D.C., offices of national faith groups.
