Operation 206 -- From the Inside Out
   From May 30-June 4 twenty-seven students from Grenada FUMC, St. Peter's Catholic Church Grenada, First Baptist Church Grenada, and Houston, MS FUMC came together to be the hands and feet of Jesus in Grenada. The theme for this year was From the Inside Out - based on Romans 12:1 -2 and reflecting the need to let Scripture and the Holy Spirit transform our lives From the Inside Out while we transform homes From the Inside Out. During the week students showed God's grace to three families and their homes. One was the home of two sisters, one of them had cervical cancer and she took care of the other who was disabled. The eves of their home were scraped and freshly painted. Another family was a single mother with two children ages fifteen and twenty-four. The mother is currently working several part time jobs to support her children. The siding on their home was scraped and freshly painted along with several rotten boards replaced. The final family was the home of a 100-year-old lady who couldn't get into her home because she needed a wheel chair ramp. After Operation 206 she now has a beautiful new wheel chair ramp on her front porch. She can now sit out on the porch and watch the traffic and the day go by.
Each evening students gathered for a time of intimate worship led by Scott Engebretson of Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY, Blake Thornell of Nashville, TN, and Josh Brister, currently the worship leader at First Baptist Church, Jackson. Students' lives were indeed transformed during this week while they helped transform other's lives.

:: Gleanings
Sufficiency "Whenever two or more are gathered, something is born in the soil of our having joined in one another's open-hearted company." I like Wayne Muller's paraphrase of Jesus' words. Whenever we gather, Jesus is in our midst. And where Jesus is, there is always sufficiency. Compassion and generosity are born from the sufficiency God gives us for all days, all circumstances. There is enough -- enough wisdom, enough love, enough grace -- for us. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. I am reading again Wayne Muller's "A Life of Being, Having, and Doing Enough" -- a book commended to you all some time ago. Building on the themes of his book "Sabbath", he urges deep trust in God that transforms our compulsive perfectionism and frantic effort into strong and gentle connection and fruitfulness in our Christian witness. Wayne Muller is deeply committed to Mississippi, having led groups here many times, particularly since Hurricane Katrina. He has graciously agreed to lead the annual September spiritual life retreat of the extended cabinet. I will draw from his work as we gather for district days this fall. I hope you will read -- and re-read -- "A Life of Being, Having, and Doing Enough" -- and rejoice in the sufficiency that is ours through the overflowing grace of God. With gratitude for your partnership in ministry, Hope Morgan Ward

Mississippi Pastor Named Men's Ministry Specialist
Rev. Rickey Haynes, a M.Div. graduate of Memphis Theological Seminary and a graduate of the No Man Left Behind Leadership Training Center for Men's Evangelism and Discipleship, has been certified as a men's ministry specialist by the Nashville-based General Commission on United Methodist Men. As a men's ministry specialist Haynes is now available to help Mississippi churches reach men within and beyond their congregations. Now in his eighth year of service as pastor of the two-point Coldwater Charge in northwest Mississippi, Haynes says, "I have wondered if this heart-felt desire to serve in ministry to men might eventually pass, but over and over again the fire continues to be re-ignited and I continue to really desire to make myself available for service in other areas and venues beyond the local churches I am blessed to serve." Haynes serves as treasurer of Mississippi Conference United Methodist Men. "I became convinced some time ago that revival and renewal among men is a key to revival and renewal in the church universal, but especially the United Methodist Church," he says. Certification for the men's ministry specialist takes 12-18 months and is completed with the guidance of the Turner Center for Church Development at Vanderbilt Divinity School. Churches interested in receiving guidance from Haynes, may contact him at rickeyhaynes23@bellsouth.net (cell phone 662-560-3449)
