Bearing Fruit: Ministry with Real Results
by Tom Berlin and Lovett Weems

Churches are created to be fruitful. The faith, knowledge and actions of Christian leaders can be shaped toward fruitfulness that is quantifiable.

Character is essential: who we are and what we believe. Competence is essential: what we know and what we are able to do. Contribution is essential: what we accomplish as a part of the in-breaking reign of God.

Often it is said, "We are called to be faithful not successful." Fruitfulness is a fully biblical image, particularly helpful to us in this time in ministry.

John Wesley asked of the early preachers: Have they faith? Have they gifts? Have they fruit? We have echoed the first two questions more urgently than the third, to our detriment.

As guides of our spirits and mentors of our practice, Berlin and Weems lead us beyond frenzy, lethargy, excuses and denial. Our work matters, and we dare not engage it without an eye to the quantifiable contribution that we make.

I hope that you will read this book in anticipation of Lovett Weems teaching with us September 19 - 21 during Pastor's School.
