We look forward to a unique and wonderful opportunity to grow in the practice and disciplines of preaching as we gather for Pastors' School at Crossgates United Methodist Church next week, Monday - Wednesday, September 13-15.
Dr. Michael Pasquarello, Professor of Preaching at Asbury Theological Seminary, will be our teacher and spiritual guide. I am reading his insightful and inspirational book. The title itself is a statement of holy truth to preachers: We Speak Because We Have First Been Spoken. I shall seek to call this phrase into my spirit henceforth whenever I enter a pulpit!
Dr. Pasquarello draws deeply from the Christian tradition as he shares a vision for preaching that is grounded in personal character, wisdom, judgment, and discernment. He challenges preachers to shift their gaze away from mere technique and pulpit strategy toward the deep call of the love of God and holiness of life.
It will be a joy to be together. I look forward to seeing you there.
