At the beginning of this new year, we have good news!
In a report to the Cabinet last week we learned the reserves in Health Benefits for clergy are greater than anticipated. This is a result of (1) living into the 2008 annual conference action to move to Blue Cross as our provider and (2) the increased health and wellness of clergy resulting in continued savings through the Amazing Pace program.
The Board of Health Benefits has made the decision to share $1,500,000 of the reserve -- $1,000,000 applied to the unfunded liability for post retirement health benefits and $500,000 as a credit to each local church's 2010 health benefits apportionments.
You will be receiving this credit in your billing for Health Benefits along with a fuller explanation of the rationale of the Board of Health Benefits.
How grateful we are for this increase in reserves as a result of the generosity of local churches and the good stewardship leadership of the Board of Health Benefits.
