Bishop Ward's ePistle for January 13, 2010
Mississippi Conference of the United Methodist Church

Prayers for the people of Haiti

::

Comfort my people...  -- Isaiah 40

The description of Tuesday, Jan. 12, as the "worst day in the history of Haiti," is heartbreaking.  Before the earthquake, this is a place of great suffering, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.

Our Haitian neighbors are in great need, and we give thanks for our capacity as a connectional church to respond.

Mark your offerings "Haiti Earthquake" and your gift will go 100% through The Advance of The United Methodist Church to meet the needs of those impacted by the earthquake.  The UMCOR Advance number for Haiti is 418325. Health kits are a high priority, and you can get directions for making health kits by clicking here.

Your support of Stop Hunger Now is also a gift to Haitians now even more in need of food.  Mark any offerings "Stop Hunger Now -- Haiti"

In Mississippi, we know the comfort of the gifts and presence of God's people in the wake of natural disaster.

Thank you for your response -- your prayers, your offerings and in time your presence -- as comfort is extended to Haiti.

With gratitude for the connection in mission we share,
Hope
