| Local Entrepreneur Works to Improve Health & Wellness in Northern Colorado
Martin Lind, President of Water Valley Land Company, has been working with the SBDC since April of 2009 to progress his business model and pursue funding. Lind's company has been developing the plans for a Northern Colorado health and wellness center with the Poudre Valley Health System, the first medical wellness and fitness center in Northern Colorado. The facility will anchor the new Marina Complex in Water Valley.
As reported by Lind, the project entered the lending environment at its worst and struggled through the process of obtaining financing. During this time, the SBDC provided assistance to Water Valley in preparing necessary loan documents, structuring the business model of the new venture, and in making connections with several different sources of funding. In November of 2009, the development team-Water Valley, Poudre Valley Health Systems, and the builder Dohn Construction-were granted a $3.8 million dollar loan through a commercial bank in the local community to enable the project to move forward.
The three-story, 60,000-square-foot center will offer physical therapy and cardiac rehabilitation, healthcare classes, wellness counseling, spa services, orthopedic care, radiology, and exercise opportunities with fitness equipment and a therapeutic pool. Additionally, medical office space will be available for physicians. "The medical wellness and fitness center, combined with our existing resort atmosphere, will prove to be a regional destination for those seeking medical-based lifestyle changes," Martin Lind said.
Lind's goals for the company include expansion into more medical office use and the creation of additional jobs. As it is, the Wellness Center will create 100 construction jobs in the first year and an additional 80 jobs once the center has been built. The facility is scheduled to open in September of 2010.
