Irish or not, everyone seems to love St. Patrick's Day. But, do you know what this green-wearing, Guinness-drinking celebration is all about? Here are some fun facts!
St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17th, because this is the feast day of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland. In Irish legends, the color green was worn by immortals and fairies, along with people who wanted to encourage their crops to grow. On St. Patty's Day, the Irish wear small shamrocks on their jackets or hats and ladies often wear green ribbons in their hair. People dance, drink and feast on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage. The phras  e "Downing the Shamrock" is from the custom of floating the shamrock on the top of whiskey before drinking it. This comes from the Irish belief that if you do this, you will have a prosperous year. St. Patrick's Day is now known as a holiday for parades and all things Irish. But did you know that the very first parade for St. Patrick's Day was not held in Ireland? It was actually started in the United States in 1737 to help Irish soldiers reconnect with their roots. Vacuum 911
My old Dyson vacuum bit the dust and it will cost more to fix than to get a new one. I also found it too heavy for going up and down stairs. Does anyone have a suggestion for the best vacuum for the money? I have one dog, three children and both hardwood floors and rugs/carpet, just to give you an idea of our cleaning needs. Help!
