Mother's Day is Sunday, so in honor of that special woman we all have, I want to say thanks to my mom, Shirley Curran, who is 85 years young and still going strong. She is an inspiration for living life with a good sense of humor and perspective. So, thanks Mom for all the times you hung in there, like waiting in line for Elton John tickets, never needing the phone when I was in Junior High, reminding me that I would survive my freshman year of college, and most of all for reminding me that life's mountains eventually become bumps in the road. Happy Mother's Day to all of you who are mothers, grandmothers, aunts, godmothers or those of you who hope to be mothers. Enjoy! |

From Alan Stanford: Reply I am looking for recommendations for a dive shop with a good reputation that gives scuba diving lessons in the Fort Lauderdale area. My teenage son and I are looking to get certified. Please reply above. Summer in the Keys From Jessica Imse: Reply I am looking for a reasonable recommendation for either a house or a hotel that has suites (we like a kitchen and extra bedroom) in the Keys for a summer trip. We don't want to be as far as Key West. Probably no further than Marathon or Big Pine. We would like to stay for 3-4 nights. We have a small boat (17ft) that would also need to be docked. We are a four person family with a three and five year old. Any ideas?

Looking For A Great Family Doctor
From April Franchina: Reply
I am looking for a Family MDs in the East Ft Lauderdale area. Sadly, my doctor who was a young, healthy guy suddenly passed away. I would like to find someone who is up on the new stuff but has enough experience to not jump on every bandwagon. What I liked best about my former MD is that he would spend all the time it would take to find out what was going on and was actively interested in my wellbeing. I would like to find someone with a similar bedside manner.
I'm Ready to Take Down My Screened in Patio
From Sage Buitron: Reply
I have been debating whether or not to make my pool area more open by taking down my screened in patio. I am finally ready to do so! If you can recommend a company that can do this for a very reasonable price, I'd be most appreciative. Or...if you know of someone who would like the aluminum and screens and they can take it down in a professional manner, they can have it for free. I live in Pembroke Pines. Please Reply above. Thank you.
Seeking Hotel for Dogs
From Sandra Bosch: Reply
Can anyone recommend a good dog kennel in the Broward county area? I need to board my dog while I travel out of town. I am looking for an upscale pet resort, as well as a place that can board my dog safely and cleanly. My dog suffers from separation anxiety - therefore these places that offer "caged dog care" won't work for him. Any recommendations and experiences are most welcome, thanks!
Wedding Bells Are Ringing
From Gigi Sewell: Reply
I am looking for a waterfront venue for a wedding in Dade or Broward County for March 2012. I am also looking for information on caterers and suppliers. Please reply above. Thanks!

Why Mom, Why?
Have you ever wondered how the tradition of Mother's Day came to be? The earliest records of a society celebrating a Mother can be found among the ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks, who held festivals honoring goddesses who were mothers of various gods. A later incarnation of a holiday to honor Motherhood came from Europe, where early Christians used the day to honor the church in which they were baptized, which they knew as their "Mother Church." In the 1600's a clerical decree in England broadened the celebration to include real Mothers, referring to the day as Mothering Day. Early settlers to America dropped this tradition upon arriving in the New World, but over the next several hundred years, many different women would work to dedicate a day to honoring mothers. In 1912 West Virginia became the first state to officially recognize Mother's Day, and in 1914 Woodrow Wilson signed it into national observance, declaring the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.
