The term "Healthy Homes" is a century-old concept that promotes safe, decent, and sanitary housing as a means for preventing disease and injury.
Emerging scientific evidence links health problems such as asthma, lead poisoning, and unintentional injuries to substandard housing.
The Cerro Gordo County Department of Public Health coordinates the S.A.F.E. (Safe and Family Friendly Environments) program for residents in Cerro Gordo, Hancock and Worth counties. Visit our web site to learn more about Healthy Homes. |

Are You Eating Enough Fat?
Fat certainly has gained a bad rap in recent decades. Many popular weight loss diets and trends suggest reducing fat intake to lose weight and prevent weight gain. But did you know that NOT eating enough fat can actually hamper your weight loss efforts and create serious health complications? Fat is an essential nutrient required for daily functioning.
Inadequate fat intake may lead to:
-
Poor vitamin absorption.
-
Decreased HDL (protective) cholesterol values.
-
Increased risk for depression (decreased nerve insulation and communication).
-
Increased risk for colon, breast, prostate cancer (Omega 3 Fatty Acids slow tumor growth).
Recommendations:
