Greetings!

Everywhere you turn there are Back to School ads and announcements. While that can be a huge relief for many, it's also a sad realization that summer is almost over. The same is true for our Summer programs at "The Other Way". This week marks the end for our Youth Employment Service program, Summer Leaders In Training, and the TEAM Children's program, just to name a few.

Here are some of the amazing things that happened at "The Other Way" this summer.

Create '09 - Summer Art Camp
Clay-Hands
Over 50 neighborhood kids participated in Create '09, the week long summer Art Camp put on by Servant's Church and "The Other Way" Ministries.

Create 09The kids had the opportunity to learn new skills like pottery, painting, photography, drumming and dancing from a group of dedicated volunteers from the community.

The week was capped off with the Art Camp Showcase complete with hors devours, singing, dancing and, of course, a display of all the work accomplished by the kids.

Summer Family Picnic
Dance
The Annual Summer Family Picnic was held at the Jean Czarnecki Family Center on July 23.  Over 150 people came and enjoyed good food, good fellowship and fun games!

A group of teens from Fair Haven Ministries (Jenison, MI) helped with the set up, clean up and kids games again this year.

Family
We praise God for the beautiful weather and wonderful opportunity to build community with families from our neighborhood.

Teens to Celebrate Summer of Work!
Mow
Each summer, 12 neighborhood teens are hired to work for the Youth Employment Service (Y.E.S.) program at "The Other Way".

Work
This summer, the teens planted and maintained flowers at downtown parks, learned about money management, resume writing, and "How to Avoid Marrying a Jerk/Jerkette". On top of all that, they mowed over 70 lawns each week! The teens also had the opportunity to learn from a number of local business and community leaders about the importance of education and job experience for a successful future.

This Friday, August 14, at 6:30 pm, the teens will celebrate their accomplishments at the Hilltop Pavilion at John Ball Park. The End of Summer Celebration will be a time for good food, fellowship and recognition of the teens for all their hard work.  We invite you to come and hear first hand how the Y.E.S. program has impacted some of our neighborhood youth this summer.

To RSVP for the Y.E.S. Event, please e-mail Jeff & Carly at YES@theotherway.org. For more pictures from the Y.E.S. program, click here.
