There She Blows
July to November is the perfect time for watching Southern right whales and Great white sharks in the oceans off Cape Town. You can come within 100 metres from a 40 ton whale that is bigger than your boat, admiring these sophisticated gentle creatures closeup. Less gentle are the great white sharks. For the ultimate adrenalin rush book a caged shark dive and be lowered into the water in scuba gear surrounded by these fearsome predators. Spend five days in Cape Town and the winelands for superb accommodation, fine dining and a wide variety of adventures on the oceans, Table Mountain and nature reserves. Contact Ross now |

Chaotic River Crossings
As we write, two million wildebeest, zebra and Thomson's gazelles have made their perilous migration from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara. This is the world's greatest wildlife migration, and during the next few months these creatures will roam the Mara plains sometimes crossing and recrossing the Mara and Talek rivers in search of fresh pasture. The wildebeest hesitate, then crash into the crocodile infested rivers, though often the huge crocs just watch as they have already eaten their fill. To see vast numbers of plains game and big cats, there can be no better place than the Masai Mara between July and November. Africa Exclusive can take you there with that all important privacy, staying at carefully chosen small camps on private reserves as part of your Kenya safari adventure. Contact Paul | |

Skeleton Coast Fly in Safari
For over thirty years the Schoeman family have pioneered fly in safaris to the hauntingly beautiful Skeleton Coast. Bertus, Andre and their brothers live and breathe it, and on a four day fly in safari they will personally pilot you in a small plane right up the coast touching down to see desert adapted elephant, incredible desert scenery, flying over old shipwrecks and visiting remote himba tribes. The Schoemans have honed this safari to perfection and each night you stay in their comfortable little camp in a different part of the Skeleton Coast. You finish at the fast flowing Kunene river to enjoy a boat ride between the walls of the spectacular Kunene Canyon. Contact John to arrange this unique safari adventure which combines perfectly with the Okavango Delta, a few days in Cape Town, or as part of a Namibia safari.

Many of you may have seen coverage on Lesotho during the world cup in South Africa. Send a Cow has been working for many years in Lesotho helping farmers who are struggling to support their families in a country with extreme weather conditions and difficult terrain. Send a Cow recently received a grant for £190,000 for work in Lesotho and is launching an appeal to match this grant and be able to directly improve the lives of 350 more families. With the pass-on principal this will indirectly improve the lives of an additional 1,750 families.

"No one can imagine the beauty of the view from anything witnessed in England. It had never been seen before by European eyes, but scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight" (Livingstone 1857) In a year when record summer rains ensure that the scenes at Victoria Falls are as magnificent as Livingstone described and filled the Okavango Delta as a paradise of glistening waterways, we bring you a newsletter focused around that precious life source...water.

Incredible Victoria Falls
One of the greatest waterfalls in the world is just a short flight from South Africa's Kruger, Zambia's South Luangwa and Botswana's Okavango Delta, so a visit to Victoria Falls can easily become an unforgettable addition to your safari in southern Africa. Dotted along the banks of the upper Zambezi, Waterberry Lodge and Tongabezi are idyllic hideaways where you can reflect on a holiday that is drawing to a close. Or, if you're looking for more adventures there are microlite flights, elephant back safaris and white water rafting.
If you are considering a safari in southern Africa contact Warwick to find out how this natural wonder can be included in your holiday. |

Selinda Canoe Trail
Better summer rains in Botswana have reopened the ancient Selinda Spillway linking the Okavango delta and the Linyanti river system in the north. You can now explore the spillway on a four day canoe trail which passes through some of Botswana's richest wildlife areas. Each day you combine canoeing at a steady pace with a couple of hours opportunistically walking, tracking elephant, lion and antelope. The scenery is idyllic open floodplains and forested islands with a great sense of remoteness. This is a real adventure, yet one which is fully supported by an expert guide and friendly support team. Overnight, the team makes camp in a new location, and you sleep in dome tents with thick mattresses. Bush showers and wc are set up. The Selinda canoe trail runs May to October and takes a maximum of 8 people, or a family or group of friends can take over an entire trail. Contact Laura to discuss how this can fit into your next safari. |
The Nile is virtually the only source of water for upper Egypt, and from ancient times most farming and civilization has hugged its river banks. So, to see the fabulous temples tombs and palaces there can be no better way than an Africa Exclusive Nile Cruise. As usual there's a good way and a bad way to do this. Contact us for the "good way" and we'll arrange a tailormade holiday of a lifetime aboard a luxurious cruiser like the Alexander the Great with spacious cabins and excellent facilities. In Cairo and Luxor we'll provide an expert private guide to take you to some of the more unusual locations and help you avoid the big crowds. You can even have a hotel room overlooking the Giza Pyramids. The best time to visit is our winter months when temperatures are cooler. Contact John to cruise the Nile in real style. |
Explore Gorongosa
The image of Robinson Crusoe archipelagos and pristine white sand beaches is what springs to mind when you think of Mozambique, yet there is another little gem you can discover. Deep in the Gorongosa National Park, Explore Gorongosa Camp gives you the chance to enjoy an adventure in a pristine and remote wilderness. This is not a place for a first safari as animals are a little shy, but if you are looking for something off the map then it is perfect. You have a real sense of pioneering as you walk and fly camp in the largely untouched reserve, searching for animals still not used to the sound of an engine, encountering bird species not yet known to exist there. Then, a hop and a skip in a small plane takes you to the Quirimbas Archipelago and those idyllic desert islands such as Matemo Island. Contact Paul to begin planning your holiday in Mozambique.
