| Greetings!
The City Council/Redevelopment Agency Board approved the Strong Neighborhoods Business Plan on August 10th. With this plan Strong Neighborhoods has broadened it's focus to supporting neighborhood action citywide.
Yesterday during the City Council Study Session, Executive Director of the Redevelopment Agency, Harry Mavrogenes, introduced exploring an opportunity to support Redevelopment and Strong Neighborhoods by adjusting the distribution of property taxes through a partnership being developed with the City, County and the Redevelopment Agency.
This opportunity will provide funding for redevelopment capital projects including Strong Neighborhoods. No additional taxes will be collected, new funding streams will be achieved through a shift in property tax distribution. The County will also benefit from a shift in the distribution of property tax and the final agreement must make sense for the entire city; the city's interest being a fiscally responsible agreement that meets the needs of the city as a whole.
These discussions are preliminary and ongoing. There are still many details to work out and there will be opportunity for public engagement in the process.
I look forward to keeping you informed of the progress of this potential partnership and what it could mean for the future of Strong Neighborhoods.
In Collaboration,
Kip Harkness |
