| Greetings!
Before Summer moves into full swing, I want to take a moment to share some great news with you regarding the Strong Neighborhoods Business Plan Update and recent actions taken by the San Jose City Council/Redevelopment Agency Board.
On June 17th, the City Council/Redevelopment Agency Board approved the Mayor's Budget Message, which restores three Full-time Community Activity Workers! Strong Neighborhoods is very grateful to Mayor Reed, Councilmember Liccardo and everyone who advocated to include them in the Revised June Budget Message, which you can read by clicking on this link:
Revised June Budget Message for FY 2010-11 On June 10th, the Neighborhood Services and Education Committee of the City Council accepted the Strong Neighborhoods Business Plan Update and deferred approval to the City Council/Redevelopment Agency Board.
On June 16th, the City Council Rules Committee deferred the acceptance of the Business Plan Update from June 22nd Joint Agency Board/City Council meeting to August 10th. This deferral was due to the jam packed City Council Agenda on June 22nd to allow the City Council/Agency Board and community stakeholders more time to review the proposal and have a richer discussion on the proposed new model for Strong Neighborhoods.
Just a reminder: You may still have an exciting opportunity to be part of the Coalition of Neighborhood Action Coalitions (CNAC) as a representative of your NAC, or by attending the Inaugural meeting of the CNAC on June 28th.
You can view the CNAC presentation and proposed partnership structure by clicking on this link:
We look forward to continuing to build strong neighborhoods with each of you and are excited about the structure CNAC will provide to continue our productive partnership with neighborhoods. I encourage you to get involved!
In Collaboration,
Kip Harkness |
