Free apprentices for the right employers
The Walcot Apprenticeship Scheme is unlike any other because of our commitment to both the young apprentice and the employer.

We seek to make a real difference in the lives of our apprentices. This is an opportunity for them to learn a skill and plan for the future.  We take as much care in selecting the employer as we do the apprentice.

Are you such an employer?  Someone who would like to make a difference and help grow their business?

We cover the apprentice's salary and training for qualifications, as well as other additional costs.

Private, voluntary or public sector enterprises are welcome.  We are looking for businesses in the following sectors: Skilled Labour (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, electrics); Tourism & Hospitality; animal Care; Hair & Beauty; Childcare; Social Care & Counselling; Gardening & Horticulture; IT & Network Engineering.

We'd like your proposals...
  • We are seeking Voluntary Sector Capacity Building Adviser(s): If you are an organisation or individual that provides capacity  building-related consultancy services to voluntary sector organisations you may be interested in this.
  • Does your organisation provide Careers Advice? We are currently seeking proposals from organisations that would be interested in employing and managing the 'LEC Careers Adviser' (a post dedicated exclusively to LEC's student grant beneficiaries and ensuring their employability). More.
Summer Playscheme Grants
This year we are offering grants for summer playschemes to take on a Lambeth resident trainee playworker who meets our financial eligibility criteria.  Playschemes can either find their own trainee or choose one from a pool of young people who have been trained by Lambeth Play Association.  More
Grants to students
Grants are now available for students who will be beginning or continuing their post-secondary studies, whether academic or vocational, in autumn 2009. More
Grants to organisations/schools
We are currently seeking preliminary discussions with potential applicants who have experience with or ideas about:
  • What can our Foundation fund that would make the greatest difference to those financially disadvantaged Lambeth young people who are struggling to become literate or numerate?
  • What works to ensure financial literacy from a young age?
  • What can be done to address the primary-to-secondary school transition where all too often key gains made for our target population at the primary school level are lost?
  • What does it take to move a NEET young person to EET?
  • How can long-term unemployed individuals receive adequate training that will allow them to enter and retain work, particularly in an economic downturn?

Lambeth Savings and Credit Union
We have made significant grants to the Lambeth Savings & Credit Union (LSCU) over the last two years.  Credit Unions are very different from high street banks.  LSCU offers simple savings opportunities and low cost loans.  If you are interested in learning more, call them on 020 3256 0000 or see their website.
WE ARE independent grant makers with origins dating from 1623. We operate exclusively in Lambeth and our purpose is to assist those affected by financial poverty. Our approach is that of offering 'a hand up', not a 'hand out'.  Annual grants total c£2 million. Find out more through our website.  Please consider forwarding this email to others who may be interested. Thank you.
