Spotlight on a Chamber of Commerce Member

Brian Duval-The Tee Shirt Guy

Many of you know Brian as the creator and producer of many of our signs, banners and company tee shirts.  Even though he has been a member of the Melrose business community for over 30 years, there are some things that people don't know about the Tee Shirt Guy.  Below is a brief interview with Brian where he describes the full range of products and services he offers to our community.

Joan: When did you start in the Tee Shirt business?

Brian:  In 1975, the Cape Cod artist and my mentor, Robert Kennedy, suggested I should be a silk screen printer.  I bought a book about silk screen printing, then headed to the SBA in Boston for some business guidance.  The 1976 Tall Ships event really launched my Tee Shirt business and The Boston Globe headlined me in the business section in 1976 for my Tall Ships Shirts. I then started printing Tee Shirts in the Marty's Furniture building on Washington Street and, in 1995 I moved to Tremont Street and have been in business here since then.

Joan: What would you like the Melrose Chamber of Commerce members to know about your business?

Brian: I want the members to know that I sell custom printed tees, sweats, hoodies and professional wear to the public.  I am known for selling a quality product at a fair price.  What some of you might not know about me is that I also do printing for every day business.  I can do color printing, both large and small, including posters, banners and business cards.  I can also help with pop up displays, back drops and stand up displays.  I do offer special rates to Chamber members upon request.

Joan: What has changed in your business?

Brian: I have a new showroom open for the public to visit.  There you can find a full array of wholesale and retail goods available for purchase.  I will be offering same day service on photo tee shirts, coffee mugs, ceramic trivet tiles and many other items.

Welcome New Chamber Members

A Letter from the Melrose Chamber of Commerce Executive Director

Hello,

Melrose is such a busy place in the spring.  With the dawn of the new season, new energy is felt in every corner of the city.  People are out and about, enjoying the weather and all our city has to offer.  The Melrose Chamber of Commerce flower baskets will hang from every Victorian lamp post, signaling the start of good weather and good times.

Speaking of being out and about, May brought the Chamber outdoors to participate in a Boot Camp sponsored by the Melrose Boot Camp.  Owner Joy Fay led us through squats, lunges, jumping jacks and other exercises that made us feel great!  A breakfast hosted by Busy Bee Bakery followed. It was a wonderful way to begin our day.

The activity at the Chamber continues as we hold our first membership drive of 2011. Called Fifty Members in Fifteen Days, we are hoping to add new members and a new energy to our already active organization.  Please reach out to non-members and ask them to join; there are incentives for new members as well as prizes for those who bring them in!  Visit the Melrose Chamber of Commerce web site to learn more.

As you probably know, the City of Melrose received a grant to do a parking assessment in the downtown area.  Chamber members are helping the City with data collection and other tasks that will add valuable input to this study.  A public meeting was held on May 17th.

On May 24th, the Melrose Chamber of Commerce, along with Board members Joan Cassidy, Joanne Schamberg of Promotional Solutions and Judy Clark of Sullivan and Clark, will host the first Home Based Business After Hours Networking event at Bellevue Golf Club. Our membership is growing, and along with this is a growth in the number of  members who work from home.  If you or anyone you know might be interested in this event, please contact me at [email protected].

May is a time to rejuvenate, and it is also a time to remember.  Please visit the City's Memorial Day parade on  May 29th to pay tribute to our brave military men and women.

Who knows what June will bring?

Joan
