Why Be A Chamber Member?

As you well know, membership in the Melrose Chamber of Commerce offers you many opportunities and benefits.  Our goal is to provide all members with networking and advertising opportunities, the ability to communicate with the Melrose business community, advocacy with city government and benefits.  These five points can be translated into a variety of projects and programs supported by the Chamber, including monthly business after hours and breakfasts; advertising opportunities ranging from newsletter sponsorships to sponsorships of one of our major community events such as the Victorian Fair; communicating with the nearly 300 Chamber members via our e-newsletter and e-mail bulletins; advocacy with city government that includes everything from parking issues to city beautification; and benefits, including group health insurance as well as member to member discounts.

What the Chamber offers is well known, but we also recognize that every organization is different and therefore gets a different benefit from Chamber membership.  We asked a few members for their reasons for being a Chamber member, and here are their responses.

Joy Fay of the Melrose Boot Camp writes: "I am so happy to be a member of the Melrose Chamber of Commerce!  Since joining, I have been introduced to many creative and friendly people whom I may have never have otherwise met.  The networking events are top notch!  I leave every event energized and inspired.  Becoming a member is the best thing I've done this past year, not only for my business, but for myself."

Patty Kelly, Community Outreach Coordinator, Housing Families Inc., offers these comments: "As an agency offering housing and support services for homeless families, we at Housing Families feel it is important to be a part of the Melrose Chamber community.  The Chamber sponsors many activities that give us an opportunity to highlight the work we do and share news about our agency with the business community."

Finally, Joe Gulino, CPA and Chamber Treasurer, says that "being a Chamber member is being part of a community.  If you need something, you have a network of people to ask for information or for help.  The Chamber helps you make connections."

We strive to help all our members see benefit from being part of the Chamber of Commerce and in turn, we ask that you help us grow membership.  More members mean more Chamber sponsored programs with larger participation.   A large, active Chamber reflects well on the City and on its businesses.

A Letter From the Chamber President

Dear Chamber Members,

As I enter my third and final year as the Melrose Chamber of Commerce President, I want to share with you some of my goals for making the Chamber a more robust organization.  In 2010, we grew our membership; we offered more programs and member opportunities than before; and participation in our events was at an all time high.  But, I think we can do a better job of offering you, our members, better and more substantial benefits.  This year we hope to build upon our member to member discounts and benefits; create a more user-friendly online member directory; and offer you more opportunities to promote your business through both Chamber and community events.

Our priority at the Melrose Chamber of Commerce is our members.  Adding new members is certainly key to our success, but keeping our current members is equally important.

I hope you will take advantage of the events, programs, and projects offered by the Melrose Chamber of Commerce in 2011.

My best,

Kevin J. DeVinney
