Spotlight on a New Member: Neighborhood Connections

There is a new business in Melrose that is planning to revitalize the tradition of welcoming new neighbors to the city.  Neighborhood Connections is a local concierge service charged with the mission of introducing new residents to local merchants and service providers.  The owner, Nancy Padulsky, now known as The Welcome Lady, was inspired to start this new business because she is a frequent mover.  Nancy tells us that "I know first hand what it is like to transition into a new community -- searching for services. My hospitality and knowledge will ease the new neighbor while my professional integrity will promote the local providers."  New residents in Melrose will be personally welcomed by Nancy who will be ready to greet them with a reusable shopping bag full of useful gifts and coupons.  The coupons will be redeemable at local merchants including restaurants, retailers and service providers.  Nancy is a firm supporter of local businesses.  She says "after all, shopping locally you save valuable time and will get to know your local neighborhood providers who will service you with the attention you deserve."

The Chamber of Commerce welcomes this new member and we wish her well in welcoming others to Melrose.

A Letter from the Executive Director
Thank You to Our Gift Certificate Sponsors
A Message from the Melrose Chamber of Commerce Executive Director

We at the Melrose Chamber of Commerce have been busy developing programs to help further promote Member businesses.  One new project has been the re-vitalization of our Gift Certificate program.  With the primary sponsor being the Melrose Cooperative Bank, dozens of other businesses stepped forward to support this project designed to encourage residents to spend locally.  In this newsletter you will find more information about our Gift Certificate sponsors as well as how to purchase them.

Along with the shopping locally initiative, I recently had the opportunity to attend a conference with our City Planner, Denise Gaffey, on how to attract and retain businesses in local business districts.  It was an eye-opening experience to me, and one that I came away with many ideas to implement in the near term while continuing to think about the long term economic fabric of Melrose and the role the Chamber will play.

Finally, we are looking to promote our programs using a variety of social media tools.  A Chamber subcommittee consisting of Elaine Foley of East Boston Savings Bank, Donna Perham of Perham Therapeutic Massage, Michael Holden of Merrill Lynch and Alex Fanning of Servpro have been educating me as to the uses and benefits of Facebook, Twitter and Linked In.  Watch for progress soon!  In the meantime, I encourage those of you who are Facebook users to become a fan of the Chamber by going to
your Facebook page and linking to the Melrose Chamber of Commerce page.

 Have a wonderful summer!
