 ISSP Position Opening: Marketing Manager
Do you want to help ISSP grow?
ISSP is in search of a self-starting marketing manager to lead marketing efforts for the organization: to leverage social media, to deploy multiple marketing methods, and attract funding to ISSP. We need someone on a part-time basis to:
  • Promote the conference and help get sponsorships
  • Follow up on leads and invite them to join
  • Develop social media outlets and relationships with other associations to promote our events
  • Place ads in appropriate journals
  • Refine a media kit
  • Place some stories in high-profile journals
  • Find ways to encourage our members and board to do outreach and bring in new members
  • Build a practical marketing strategy
This is an opportunity to build your resume, grow the organization and develop a new position in the organization. ISSP is a great door-opener. If you believe in our mission and have some experience or interest in marketing, please contact Marsha Willard.

Miller, Debra (ed) (2010) Conserving the Environment. New Haven, CT: Greenhaven Press.

This book is one of a series that lays out both sides of an issue, with authors presenting different points of view, which could make it a convenient teaching tool. This book covered climate change, biodiversity loss, and steps needed to protect the environment. That's an odd assortment. You might assume that in the case of climate change, the debate would be between the doubters and the doomsayers. But that was not the case. Probably the most interesting insight for me was that the arguments against positions I might hold myself were less about questioning the need. More...

Finally a book that doesn't waste chapters documenting the problems. This book pulls together a lot of the solutions already underway. Chapters include learning from our ancestors, going 'glocal', greening commerce, regenerative design, etc. The up-side is that this book pulls together a bunch of good initiatives; the down-side is that if you've been in the industry for a while, only dribs and drabs will be new to you.
