How Proactive And Powerful Are Your
Decisions And Actions?
If wanting it was enough, we'd all have it - that dream job, perfect health, that soul mate and relationship! If wanting was enough, we'd all have that great body, spiritual bliss, and financial independence! . . . But, wanting isn't enough I have learned, and in fact, you and all of humanity are learning exactly the same thing. When you want to have something you never had before you have to become the person you never were before. There is no short-cut or easy-way-out in doing this. It is in fact hard and often painful work. It requires the qualities of a Christopher Columbus, the burning desire to discover new land (yourself), the persistence to not give up when you encounter obstacles and the confidence and faith to know that you are on the right track. Eventually you will reach land, enlightenment, wholeness, inner peace and happiness. You will live life as the creative and empowered being that you were meant to be.
There are two ways that change comes about in our life. Either, we take proactive steps and make empowered choices or our environment decides for us and forces change upon us.
A proactive action is one where we make a conscious decision about an action that we are about to carry forward. An action can be a thought, a feeling or an actual deed. When we are conscious about something, we are acutely aware of the fact that our decision will have consequences. We have evaluated the pros and cons to see if we have all the facts to make an educated decision. We have also checked in with our heart or Higher Self to see if the decision we are about to make will be in our best interest and in the best interest of all other parties involved. A proactive action always requires us to ask ourselves: how do I feel about this and how will it impact others?
The very moment we ask ourselves 'how do I feel about making this decision? we become aware of the fact that our decision carries within it the potential of unwanted and unpleasant consequences; it carries within it a degree of uncertainty and unpredictability. Right here, at this very point most people stumble because they fall prey to their subconsciously held negative programming about security, certainty and predictability. Because they are uncomfortable with the feeling of an uncertain future, they quickly resort back to their mind for the decision making. Now the mind, the computer of their subconscious and their Ego is in charge and shows them video streams of possible negative outcomes. Their heart, the computer of the Universe has no say anymore.
A proactive decision is one where we are aware of our 'feelings' of anticipated and possibly unpleasant consequences that may or may not come about. However, we are 'okay' with this feeling of uncertainty, we can live with it, we can go with the flow of creation. Our mind and our heart are in unity, and as a result, we are fearless, authentic and empowered.
A passive action is exactly the opposite.
Not making a conscious decision is also a decision that bears consequences. In fact, this is the case most of the time; to be exact 95% to 99.9% of the decisions we make daily are made by our subconscious mind. Just think about driving a car. When we drive our car (unless we are a beginner), we don't think anymore about shifting gears, pressing the clutch or the gas pedal. These functions have become automatic and are filed in our subconscious mind under 'driving a car'. They have become habitual, allowing us to divert our attention to other matters, like talking to our passengers or navigating to a destination.
Our subconscious mind holds a lot of files like the one 'driving a car'. The files are loaded with conditioned beliefs, patterns of thinking and behaviors that our parents, environment, culture and religion imprint on us. We don't like to hear, even less face it, but we are not much more than automated puppets on a string, being controlled by our subconscious mind.
I hope it has become clear by now that decisions we make in our life, whether they concern relationships, business, career or financial matters, are more like playing in a lottery or playing roulette than having actual power and control about a desired outcome.
The solution to this is: "Be(come) the change that you wish to see in your life" Mahatma Ghandi
