Crossfire DVD Ready to be Mailed
Special Announcement from Calvin Landrus, SRCFC National Director
Merry Christmas! This is always such a wonderful time of the year. A great time to announce availability of a new outreach tool to you as a Christian climber. What do I speak of? A video named Crossfire. Just over a year ago, a special donation was given to SRCFC for us to create outreach video with me as the "star." At first, I was reluctant. Why? First, I'm not that great of a climber or verbal communicator. Secondly, it would continue the perception that SRCFC is "my ministry." On that note, please know that although I live & breath SRCFC 24-7, the ministry belongs to every Christian climber who desires that at least one climber in their life come to Christ. My main desire is help you see your climbing friends come to Christ.
Back to the video...Crossfire is a four-star route at the world-class crag of Smith Rock here in Oregon. When I first tried it, I couldn't do the two cruxes. But the climbing was so much fun, I kept throwing myself at it. And finally after much work, I could envision it going for me. At the same time, the Lord placed in my heart the idea of sharing the Gospel as I climbed it.
The redpoint came last April and the filming of it in HD soon followed. And what resulted is a rather distinctive climbing video "featuring an insignificant climber, sharing a significant message."
Now, you might wondering, why a DVD? That's a great question. The main reason we felt lead to first release Crossfire as a DVD was that it would preserve its uniqueness for a season. And during this season, you will have an opportunity to share it with a fellow climber before he or she is "inoculated" by being exposed to it on the web. (Please do know that we will follow-up the DVD release with a strong web-release in the couple of months.)
Another reason for a DVD release is that it allows for better follow-up opportunities. Here is the suggested approach: as you offer the DVD to a climbing friend, ask for them to return it. That will do two things. First, it shows you value it, making them more likely to watch it. Secondly, when they return it, you will have an occasion to ask them for their response.
And the final reason is that there are bonus features that will give the viewer, a chance to see an amusing promo of our website (soon have a searchable partners database and forum section), a video of world-class climber, Doug Englekirk, sharing his journey through climbing and being a Christ follower, actual repoint footage of Crossfire and finally a segment for one to follow along in prayer to receive Christ.
I believe this DVD will be a life changing time both now and eternally for many climbers. But it will take you to grab hold of this opportunity. The first thing you will need to do is prayerfully consider who you should give this to. It should be someone you have a relationship with; without that connection, the DVD will fall on deaf ears.
The second thing you will need to do is let us know you want a copy. Because of another special donation, we have had enough professionally reproduced and packaged to send everyone on our mailing list a copy. Right now, we have a selected list of folks who are clearly engaged in our mission work to send it to. However, we don't have want to spend the cost ($0.72 reproduction and $1.73 to mail) to send the DVD unless it will be used. So if you want it and want to make sure you will receive a copy, please reply to this Email Update or email office@srcfc.org and say you want it. Inclusion of your mailing address will ensure we are getting it the right place. Do this today, as the DVD will start going out next week.
As I close, I would like to thank the many involved in making this happen. First, the Lord, then my dear supporters Al and Annie whose donation started this project, the good folks at Raven Collective Media - Lance, Monika, Adam and Torrey, my main climbing partners for Crossfire - Andrew and Ryan, SRCFC Board of Directors and my prayer support team including those Solid Rockers who get together on a conference call on Mondays to pray.
Most of all, I'm thankful for you being part of SRCFC. Your desire to be a part of mission work to climbers motivates me to keep on keeping on! I really believe the best days of SRCFC fulfilling its mission are ahead of us and Crossfire is one of things that will allow us to leap forward. Are you ready to leap? I sincerely hope you are. Blessings to you my friend!

Mongolian Chalkbags on CharityGiftMarket.com
A few weeks ago, Charity Gift Market contacted us and asked if we want to post the handmade chalkbags we distribute for the micro-business in Western Mongolian. Once confirming it was legit, we preceded with a posting them. They do ask in return that we get the word out and as one of the founders said, "show some love through social media sites." Thanks for checking out the site and reposted as you feel lead.
