At the End of the Rope

Ryan Bolen on Chain Reaction

Ryan Bolen on Chain Reaction (5.12c)

When climbing on technical and powerful terrain like you often do on the harder routes at Smith Rock, you can do everything right and still find yourself suddenly "at the end of the rope" instead of clipping the chains.Over the last couple of weeks, a Solid Rocker and good friend, Ryan Bolen, has experienced that often while attempting to repoint a "next-higher-grade" climb aptly called Chain Reaction. It will go down for him soon!

One of the great things about climbing is that it often teaches lessons for living; and so often this rest upon the truth found in the Bible.  Remember Peter's failure.  He had been walking with Jesus for a couple of years, his life filled up to the brim by being in the presence of God in the flesh!  I'm sure Peter never expected to be at-the-end-of-the-rope in failure after he so confidently declared a few hours earlier, "Even if all fall away, I will not." (Mark 14:29 & 66-71)

Can you imagine Peter's guilt and remorse when suddenly the rooster crowed--and the Lord Jesus, now a captive, looked straight at him with that sorrowful look?  As Peter went out from the courtyard and wept bitterly, he must have thought his failure was final. After all, he had not only denied being one of the Lord's friends, he had sworn that he didn't even know Him!

Have you ever felt led to speak forth the word of witness to a climber but denied the Holy Spirit's leading and kept quiet?  I know I have!  But just like Peter, we all will have another to give witness because as a climber, opportunities are often provided.

Read the story of Peter's restoration at breakfast by the Sea of Galilee in the last part of John 21.  Our Lord's gentle restoration of Peter was, as David Reid declared on growingchristians.org, "certainly a fulfillment of that wonderful messianic passage in Isaiah 42:3. 'A bruised reed He will not break, and a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish.'"

In our shared journey of being a witness for Christ to climbers, we may have failed, even to point where we have denied being a Christ-follower with our words and/or actions.  But as Peter learned failure is never final.  Just like an unsent project, get back on it.  BE A WITNESS FOR CHRIST TO CLIMBERS!

AmruthaAmrutha Renganathan recently contacted SRCFC and shared this, "Hello, I recently graduated from the University of Georgia. I recently developed a love for rock climbing and I would really like to travel extensively for about four months on a road trip out West, and use it as ministry. I would like to rock climb and couch surf my way through and also stop and serve at ministries along the way. My goal is for this trip to be a freestyle mission trip. I am looking for a Christian girl that would be willing to partner with me in this trip. Please let me know if you are interested or if you know of anyone that might be. The dates I would like to go are August to November of this year."

After initial emails, National Director, Calvin Landrus, have a phone conversation with Amrutha.  After seeing how her desires could happen in partnership with SRCFC under our Short Term Missionary Program, she is actively seeking a Member to join her on this adventure for Christ.

Read how this could work for you at www.srcfc.org/About-Us/Short-Term-Missionary. You can reach Amrutha at amrutha678@gmail.com.  We know the Lord has the right person in mind for this trip!

September 20-25: West Coast National Conference Yosemite National Park

SRCFC has National Conferences on each Coast during the "odd" years and one in the Rocky Mountain Region during "even" years. Following our East Coast National Conference in April at Red River Gorge, our West Coast Conference will be September 20-25 in the Yosemite National Park.  National Conferences are traditionally our highest attended SRCFC events. At them, you will get to know Solid Rockers from across the country, receive teaching from the National Director and others on evangelism, experience worship and devotionals and hang out & climb together.  Our service project will be volunteering at the Yosemite Facelift. The Schedule will be announced closer to the event but days will start with a short devotional, followed by on-mission climbing and ending with worship and teaching time.  Our keynote speaker is TBA.  However, we have reserved camping at Upper Pines Campground.
