SRCFC Email Update - Volume 11,  Number 14 (Issue #202)         December 9, 2010

Review of 2010
By Calvin Landrus

SRCFC's vision of bringing the Good News of Christ to climbers is accomplished as we are encouraged, equipped, and empowered as Christian climbers to reach climbers for Christ through personal witness and group outreach.  We are bound together under one name and purpose because of T.E.A.M - "Together Everyone Accomplishes More."

Part of the team is SRCFC's Board of Directors.  As a group, they provide oversight and accountability for the organization.  Current BOD members are: Steve Hughes - Denver, CO, Kristin Anderson - Vienna, VA, John Blaubach (Treasurer) - Santa Barbara, CA, Jim Stone (Secretary) Sunriver, OR, Rick Krause (Vice President) - Madras, OR and Calvin Landrus (President) - Bend, OR.  Because we reside across the nation, we often meet remotely.  We gathered on Saturday morning, December 4th, via a video conference call.

Below is a summary of the Annual Report I presented to them.  As you read the report, you will see that as an organization we continued to accomplish much.  Also, early in the 2010, I shared three main directions for SRCFC for the year.  Next, I share how we have done on those directions.

 1. Train our membership on "How to Have a God Talk."  In the last mailed newsletter, The Vertical Adventure, the article by Steve Hughes "Doing Evangelism in our Post-Christian Society" was well received.  Additionally, he spoke on the topic at our National Conference.  In 2011, we are planning on releasing the video from those talks and continue to encourage members to have God Talks.

2. Rely More on Local Leadership.  We successfully transitioned from having Area Contacts, perceived by most to be a "solo-act" to having Chapter Coordinators.  In early 2011, we will continue to process this transition as our website launches the social networking platform in phase two (see below).  We know as a national organization that strong local leadership is necessary for success.

3. Finish Our New Website:Our internet presence is the "front-door" through which the majority of new contacts (saved and unsaved alike) interact with SRCFC.  Thanks to the volunteer work of Travis Weil and the work of Smartz Solutions, we how have a contemporary, professional website.  We are having 150 unique page-views per day which is at least double that of our previous site.  The second phase will add social networking capacities so that there will be more community being developed between Solid Rockers because they will have a way to connect and share with one another via forums.

As individuals and as a group, let's give thanks to God for what He has done and will continue to do through SRCFC.  Your continued support is the only way for our mission to move forward!  So will you pray, then give and then be a witness to climbers in 2011?  I know you will, as God leads and provides!

Report: Mexico Outreach at Chonta & Jilo

by Roger Kubly (kublyr@hotmail.com)

Jesus said, "Be of good cheer, for I have overcome the world!  We had so much to cheer for in Mexico this past month.  Calvin, I, Fernando, and a number of Fernando's family and friends joined together to bring light into spiritual darkness.

As night fell on that last Sunday night at the end of October, I have this picture in my mind of a climber on the ceiling of the gargantuan El Chonta cave in near total darkness with just a headlamp to guide the way.  Without that light there would have been no possibility of a climber completing these very challenging climbs in such a spectacular setting.  The scale of this cave is so huge it literally took me a half hour just looking at it and the distant ant-size climbers to take in the context of it all.  I soon realized that this was just a small example of God's humbling/awesome power to show us His greatness, and our smallness.  Without His light and life giving power, we would have no hope of knowing Him at all.  We had connectted with many at El Chonta and looked forward to connecting again at our next climbing destination - Jilotepec.

We spent the night in the beautiful city of Taxco....read rest of report the includes photos
