Texas Health Resources advocate Kenneth Jones with the dedication of the Kenneth H. Jones, Jr. Orthopedic Joint Unit at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth. Named in his honor, Kenneth was moved to learn that friends, spearheaded by Clifton and Sheridan Morris along with the Texas Health Harris Methodist Foundation, launched a quiet campaign to raise funds for the renovation and expansion of the unit. The new 25-bed Ortho Unit enhances the care that Texas Health Fort Worth can provide to orthopedic patients, their families, and to the physicians, nurses and physical therapists who serve there.

NEWS AROUND THE SYSTEM

List of Top Integrated Healthcare Networks Includes Texas Health Resources
Texas Health Resources has earned a spot on the 2012 IMS Top 100 Integrated Healthcare Networks (IHN) list. Texas Health placed No. 50. The list recognizes health systems that excel in coordinating the range of health care services provided, from outpatient facilities to hospitals and rehabilitation centers, in a way that results in improved patient care, higher patient satisfaction and lower costs. The survey was conducted by IMS Health, a leading provider of information, services and technology for the health care sector. IMS evaluated nearly 600 IHNs and ranked them according to the ability to operate as a unified health organization.

Texas Health Azle Receives $420,000 Grant

Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Azle has been awarded a $420,000 grant from the Texas Department of State Health Services to support community health programs that focus on wellness and disease prevention. The Transforming Texas: Healthy People in Healthy Communities Grant aims to prevent heart attacks, strokes, cancer and other leading causes of death or disability in counties with populations of 499,999 or less through evidence and practice-based policy, environmental, and system change approaches. The grant funds received by Texas Health Azle will be used to collaborate with community organizations on community wellness programs in Parker and Hood counties. The hospital plans to help educate residents on the importance of chronic disease self-management, smoking cessation, and healthy food choices. Chronic disease self-management education will aim to give patients the tools and resources to manage high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes symptoms and improve their quality of life.

Texas Health Fort Worth Named 'Best Place to Have a Baby'
baby

When it comes to having babies, readers of FortWorth Child magazine turn to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth for care. The hospital was voted "Best Place to Have a Baby" for the 17th time in the magazine's "Best for Mom and Baby" readers' survey. Texas Health Fort Worth is the regional referral center for high-risk deliveries in Tarrant and surrounding counties. It's one of seven hospitals in Texas designated "Baby Friendly" by the World Health Organization, an honor that recognizes a comprehensive approach to breastfeeding support. Whether patients desire an epidural and delivery by an obstetrician on the hospital's medical staff or a natural water birth with a nurse-midwife, the hospital is dedicated to trying to honor the choices of moms in the Fort Worth area.

Pathway to Excellence Designation Awarded to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville
stephenville

Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville has achieved Pathway to Excellence® designation from the American Nurses Credentialling Center (ANCC). Texas Health Stephenville is one of only 75 hospitals in the U.S. to earn the designation, which is granted to health care organizations that create a work environment that supports nurses. To achieve the Pathway to Excellence designation, hospitals must foster an environment where nurses can excel in their practice. Efforts to improve the quality of care provided to patients also are reviewed, as are the hospital's policies, procedures and culture. Nurses at the hospital completed a survey discussing their satisfaction with Texas Health Stephenville and identifying it as a best place to work. Texas Health Stephenville was one of the first hospitals to achieve the Texas Nurses Association's (TNA) Nurse-Friendly™ designation in 2005. The ANCC acquired the TNA program and broadened the designation to the national Pathway to Excellence program. Texas Health Stephenville completed a full re-designation process to earn its Pathway to Excellence recognition.

A Healthy Snack Attack

Soybeans contain more calories than your typical green veggie, mainly due to their abundant mono- and polyunsaturated heart-healthy fats.  They also pack in satiating protein and are a great source of fiber; making an opportune snack to satisfy.

Edamame (green soybeans)
1 cup serving in shell: 90 calories; 3 grams fat (1 gram saturated); 8 grams protein; 4 grams fiber 400 milligrams potassium

Parmesan Garlic Edamame

Ingredients
1 (16 oz) pkg. frozen edamame in shell
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons Italian-seasoned bread crumbs
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 teaspoon coarse sea salt

Directions
Steam edamame in microwave until slightly warm and not frozen. Drain and set aside.

Heat a medium sized skillet over medium high heat. Add edamame and toss for a few seconds. Add garlic and oil and sauté for one to two minutes, stirring constantly. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

Add breadcrumbs, Parmesan, and salt and toss until well coated. Serve immediately.
