White Water
Wild & Scenic Oregon Rafting
by Kyla Merwin Cheney
What a river loses in elevation it gains in speed. Combine that with a narrowing of the channel, add some air for a frothy effect, and you've got some serious white water. And that puts you in store for some serious fun.
(Note: Rivers are also seriously dangerous, even when you don't see rapids. Know the river you're playing on before you stick your toes in.)
Rivers in Oregon range from Class 1 to
Class V. Class I rivers may seem to move at a snail's pace on the surface, and make for sweet and gentle float trips, but make no mistake: currents below the water can be swift and dangerous.
