A Trail with a Past The Row River Trail; Cottage Grove "Row" - in the case of the Row River Trail - rhymes with "cow" and takes its name from an infamous row over said cow, plus some sheep, and resulted in the early and unexpected demise of a certain quarrelsome rancher in the Cottage Grove area in the early 1850s.
The upswing of this sad story is that once grazing rights had been settled, and the Oregon, Pacific & Eastern Railroad come and gone, the smart folks in Cottage Grove - with the help of seven other partner organizations - converted a 15-mile strip of abandoned land into a remarkably awesome paved path to hike, bike and ride horses. Are you an Oregon Road Tripper? We'd love to hear about it! Post your adventure here.
