Spinning Up Adventure Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway
A thread of rural roadway runs 130 miles through the Willamette Valley, anchored by historic towns, and chasing the river through farms and fields, orchards and vineyards. The official Willamette Valley Scenic Bikeway begins south of Portland at Champoeg State Heritage Area and ends at Armitage Park just north of Eugene. At the heart of this route sits the city of Albany. Like the hub of a wheel. this historic town supports the many spokes of opportunities that reach deep into Linn County. Oregon's rural country roads weave together tremendous opportunities for cycling, especially in the springtime in the Valley, when the daffodils and flowering trees are in full bloom. But you don't have to spin through all 130 miles of the scenic bikeway to get your fix. There are four segments to experience, up close and personal. To help accommodate such an adventure, I found a really fun, handy and nostalgic bike basket. It easily snaps on and off my handlebars and had a wonderful wicker handle for carrying through the market. Perfect for all those fresh vegetables and home-baked bread I'm gathering. READ MORE
