Memorial Day Weekend
| Elk Lake Resort Opens May 28
Elk Lake Resort plans on opening Friday, May 28 for the summer season. Tucked high into the Cascade mountains 11 miles west of Mt. Bachelor, Elk Lake is only accessible in the winter via snowmobile, snow cat or snowshoes! Come Memorial Day weekend, however, the gated highway opens to all traffic and that means you can rent one of their cabins - rustic or well-appointed - for the weekend, enjoy your meals in the lakeside lodge and explore the solitude and beauty of the high country. READ MORE. Photo by Valorie Webster. Experience Elk Lake in the winter. Read "Elk Lake: Through the Wardrobe Into a Mystical Winterland" here. Old McKenzie Pass
|
Last week we reported the opening of McKenzie Pass, OR 242 on May 4. Rather, it opened May 21. We regret the error. Snow plowing continues on the McKenzie Highway. On the east side of
the pass, the highway is open to bicyclists and hikers to just beyond
Windy Point, which is approximately three miles west of the Sisters
snow gate. Find ODOT updates here. |
