Jim and his wife, Debbie, have three sons. Jim, age 40, in Columbus Ohio with wife Sarah and 6 month old son James Carl (named after grandpa)

Joe, age 35, in Chicago Illinois and Christopher, age 24, in Phoenix Arizona

Jim loves his Ohio State Buckeyes and has been very active in the Naples chapter of the Ohio State Alumni Association.  He also enjoys boating, classic cars, and spending as much time as possible working on his 1964 ½ Mustang, and a little time driving it.

"Rotary gives me a sense of community, my Rotary friends are important to me.  Even with all the great community services we provide there is no question that I receive more from Rotary than I give."

Jim Connell

Jim is a native Floridian and the retired CEO of World of Stone (a marble and granite company) which was in financial trouble when he was asked to come in to help.
Jim was able to guide it to profitability in 12 months.
The company was sold and he retired.

Prior to that as a Graduate Gemologist Jim had Carousel Jewelers in Boca Raton. It was an upscale store that designed and made most of the things they sold. He was with Bayer Ag. Chemical for 10 years and was the Sales Manager of National Accounts and
in charge of the Specialty Chemical division.

Divorced since 1985, Jim's son,
Brian, (single)  (Age 43), is a Duke grad with 2 degrees and a CFA. His company is: Harbinger Research, LLC
currently operating from Delray Beach, Fl. but he will probably return to NYC this year.

Jim's present passion in life is growing orchids. He often travels great distances in Florida to attend shows and acts as a judge at some of them.

"Rotary provides me with the opportunity to be of service to others and to cooperate with others to achieve greater things than I could do alone.  I enjoy the friendships, and the attitude of the entire organization."

Halftime

Greetings!

Depending on your perspective, the glass is either half full or half empty.  No matter how you look at it, we are halfway through the 2011-2012 Rotary year.  It's going by quickly!

It is time to have our second of three Club Assemblies on January 4.  The purpose of this Club Assembly is to give everyone an update on how we are progressing this Rotary year.

I am pleased to report that the club is in outstanding shape:

  • Our corporate tasks are being taken care of, including our corporate annual reports, tax returns, and board meeting minutes.
  • Our financials are rock-solid.  Our balance sheet is flush with cash and our income statement is healthy.
  • Membership stands at 109, including 84 Active, 21 Active Rule of 85, and 4 Honorary members.  We also have 14 snowbirds who have officially completed our snowbird application.
  • Weekly programs have been scheduled through the end of June.  Hopefully you have enjoyed our speakers the first half of the year!
  • We will have several more social events this Rotary year.
  • Planning for Grapes & Apes is in full swing.  (In fact, our lunch program on January 11 is dedicated to Grapes & Apes - stay tuned!)
  • Each of our service projects is being led by a project chair and director.  All projects are in good standing.

It takes a team effort for our Rotary club to run effectively and efficiently.  Thank you for all that you do to help us promote the object of Rotary (fellowship, ethics, service, and peace)!

In the second half of this Rotary year, let's continue to have fun and "reach within to embrace humanity"!

Yours in Rotary Service,

Frank

This Week's Meeting

Topic: Club Assembly

Speaker: Board of Directors

  • A review of progress over the last six months and a look forward at the remainder of the Rotary year.

Featured Members

  • If we have your photo but have not yet featured you as a member in our weekly bulletin it is because we do not have your brief biography. Please send a brief email to our editor including where you work or worked, something about your family, your hobbies and interests and something important to you about Rotary. We hope to get every member in the bulletin during the year.  We'd also like to get this information from our registered Snowbirds. Thanks!

Club Directory

  • An effort is underway to create a club directory. This is the main reason Jim Connell has been working so hard to take member photos. You should have received an email requesting Membership Verification which allows you to review your personal information in the District Database and confirm or update it as necessary. Please take just a few minutes to do this so we can ensure the information in the database is correct. If you have any questions about how to access the database with your login, please email Mia Delk or call her at 239-272-5186 for assistance.

Grapes & Apes

  • Your help is needed! We are in the critical stage of procuring sponsors and auction items as well as selling tickets. The big day is less than 3 months away and we are now in full execution mode. Please see Randy Kurtz or Michael Orden for sponsorship brochures. For an action brochure, please see Mia Delk. Everyone needs to work together to gather support to ensure our success again this year. If you have a ticket buyer, please see Jim Scartz or Jim Connell.
