Featured Member, Nicki Huber
Nicki Huber

Nicki is the retired president and CEO of Nicol Scales, Inc. in Dallas, Texas where she worked for 23 years. She worked earlier in her career as an account executive (the first woman in that position) for Allied Stores in New York City and then in Dallas.

Nicki and her husband, best known as Paul E. who is also a member of our club, share two children, Brian and Jeffrey, and three grand-children, Ariana, Alexander and Grace.  Nicki and Paul met in 1989 and commuted between Dallas and California, 6 years dating and 7 years married, before Nicki sold her family business and relocated to the west coast.

Nicki enjoys traveling, having recently taken a trip to Korea, and also volunteering at many organizations around Collier County. Nicki has made volunteering a life-long practice no matter where she has lived.

"On Rotary, I enjoy meeting so many people from around the world in my home town (where ever that is) and around the world as I travel. It is a great way to exchange information and know that you can always find help and support in all you do or where ever you are. We even found our new home as a result of Sam Hinkle. I also love participating in the various service projects and knowing the extent of our reach thru the important projects world wide."

As a longtime member of our club Greg and his wife, Angela, are familiar faces at menu of our events.

Greg was a director on our board from 1999 to 2007 and was president of The Rotary Club of Naples in 2005-2006. He is a graduate of Leadership Collier in the 1998 class.

Happy New Year!

Greetings!

As we reflect upon 2011, we can be so proud of our club's accomplishments!

In March 2011, our club held our first ever Grapes & Apes fundraiser, raising a total profit of $55,000.  This money has funded our charitable activities for the 2011-2012 Rotary year. It took the cumulative effort of everyone in this club to pull this off:  the vision of our self-proclaimed "gorilla-at-large", Rich Ahrens; the desire of then-president Jay Crandall to be "bigger, better, bolder"; the leadership of coordinators Jerry Wynn and Rich Kirschner; and the dedication of every Rotarian and spouse in our club to do the heavy lifting.  It is simply amazing what we were able to accomplish together!

This year also saw the birth of the Rotary Club of Naples Charitable Foundation Endowment Fund.  This is our equivalent of The Rotary Foundation's "Permanent Fund".  The purpose of having an endowment fund is to have a pool of money that is always there.  This fund is grown at the rate of inflation, and the growth in excess of inflation is used to fund charitable projects.  What a legacy we are creating!

We are motivated by the dedication of Sonny Grech and the volunteers who have welcomed families into their homes for the Gift of Life program.  Lives have been saved!

While 2011 was fantastic, 2012 promises to be even better!  We have a lot of hard work ahead of us to plan and execute Grapes & Apes 2012.  With a team of smart, talented, and dedicated members in our club, we are ready to take things to the next level.

Please celebrate safely on New Year's Eve.  Best wishes to you and your family for a healthy and prosperous 2012!

Yours in Rotary Service,

Frank

This Week's Meeting

Topic: Cancer Alliance of Naples

Speaker: Sonny Grech

  • We will learn about a unique organization whose focus is to help families in our community who are affected by cancer.  Cancer Alliance of Naples helps these families survive with their everyday needs.

Featured Members

  • If we have your photo but have not yet featured you as a member in our weekly bulletin it is because we do not have your brief biography. Please send a brief email to our editor including where you work or worked, something about your family, your hobbies and interests and something important to you about Rotary. We hope to get every member in the bulletin during the year.  We'd also like to get this information from our registered Snowbirds. Thanks!

Club Directory

  • An effort is underway to create a club directory. This is the main reason Jim Connell has been working so hard to take member photos. You should have received an email requesting Membership Verification which allows you to review your personal information in the District Database and confirm or update it as necessary. Please take just a few minutes to do this so we can ensure the information in the database is correct. If you have any questions about how to access the database with your login, please email Mia Delk or call her at 239-272-5186 for assistance.

Endowment

Rotary Club of Naples Charitable Foundation Endowment

  • Are you aware that our club established an endowment fund in 2011? None of us can be charter members of The Rotary Club of Naples as we celebrate our 60th year, but we can be part of a lasting legacy for generations of future Rotarians by joining together to build and grow our endowment. Please consider OUR foundation in your year-end giving as well as in your estate planning.
