Giving Thanks

Greetings!

With Thursday, November 24 being Thanksgiving, please allow me this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude:

  • Let me start by thanking Jennifer Hoy and the Social Committee for planning such a fantastic 60th Anniversary Celebration last week!  Tons of effort went into making that evening so special.  I appreciate everything our volunteer team did!
  • The Rotary Club of Naples is grateful to Carrie Hartman and the Naples Beach Hotel staff for treating us so well each week.  They go the extra mile to keep us happy with wonderful food and friendly service.  Thank you!
  • I want to thank this year's talented officers and directors:  Rich Ahrens, Hal Atzingen, Ryan Blauch, Jay Crandall, Mia Delk, Nancy Graham, Ron Gustason, Jennifer Hoy, Paul Huber, Rich Kirschner, and Steve Stolz.  It is a pleasure working with each of you!  Sue Cobb, our Executive Secretary, does such outstanding work for us - thank you!
  • To our committee leaders and volunteers, I appreciate everything you do to make our club so amazing.  Thank you!
  • On a personal note, I want to thank my brother, Steve Fontana, for suggesting that I join Rotary with him.  I also want to thank Jerry Wynn for sponsoring my membership back in April 2007.
  • I am forever grateful to all of our club members for allowing me to serve the club as president this year.  I appreciate your support and trust!
  • On November 26, consider giving thanks to the 24 men who had the vision to create THE Rotary Club of Naples 60 years ago.
  • Finally, I thank my wife Linda and my sons Topher and Drew for their understanding as I allocate precious time to Rotary.  You are the best!

On behalf of me and the Fontana family, we wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Yours in Rotary Service,

Frank

Topic: The presentation will focus on the mission and program of the Friends of Foster Children.  It will also describe the purpose of the Gift of Giving project and the structure of the event.

Member Photos

Please see Jim Connell at today's meeting and ask him if he has a current photo of you for the District Database.  We would like to have all member head shots in the same format so when our directory is published this winter it will have a clean, uniform appearance.  Jim will take your photo on the spot.

Child's Gift of Giving

  • The Holidays are just about here! December is just around the corner and I'd like to invite you to make plans to participate in our "Child's Gift of Giving" event.  Gift of Giving is a partnership including our Club, the Germain automotive group and Friends of Foster Children of SW Florida.

On Sunday, December 11th, we plan to take aproximately eighty (80) foster care kids on a shopping trip to buy holiday gifts for their foster parents & siblings. We will be shopping at the Walmart just south of US 41 on 951 ( 6650 Collier Blvd).

The event begins at 8:30AM at the Walmart. Volunteers will meet at the Walmart & be paired up with a foster child (ages from about four to seventeen). The kids should bring shopping lists. Our job will be to guide them around the store & help them choose gifts while making sure they stay within budget & buy for everyone on their list. Funds are provided by the Germain family.

After shopping, the action moves to the Germain Honda dealership on Davis Blvd where  there will be a gift wrapping party. We should be all done by about 12:30 or 1:00.

We are looking for lots of volunteers. Spouses, friends, etc are always welcome! Your kids are welcome, too, as long as they shop with an adult.  BE THE FIRST ONE IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD TO GET IN ON THIS GREAT OFFER!
Sign up now & avoid standing in a long line at next week's Club meeting. Email Ron Gustason now at rgustason@rwhsgcpa.com to get on list for this great event.

"At the 1917 convention in Atlanta, Arch C. Klumph, then Rotary president, proposed setting up an endowment 'for the purpose of doing good in the world.' The Rotary Club of Kansas City, Mo., made the first contribution - $26.50. In 1928, after the endowment fund had grown to $5,000, it was renamed The Rotary Foundation."
