Greetings!
One of the many traditions in the Rotary Club of Naples is for the outgoing president to give the incoming president the "club charter" at the end of a Rotary year. The club charter is a document presented to a Rotary club by Rotary International, which proves that the club is a member of RI. (Rotary clubs are members of RI, while Rotarians are members of their respective clubs; Rotarians are not members of RI.)
On November 26, 1951, the Rotary Club of Naples received its charter from Rotary International, signed by RI President Frank E. Spain and RI Secretary Philip Lovejoy. The club was started by 24 men in town, including the fathers of current members Larry Ingram and Jerry Wynn. All 24 men signed the charter application and are therefore known as "charter members".
The Rotary Club of Naples has served the community for 60 years, thanks to the hard work of members dedicated to "Service Above Self". Our club is rich in history, and every member today owes much gratitude to those who built our club incrementally over the years.
I have a deep appreciation for, and I want to personally thank, every president who has served before me. The following past presidents are still members of our club. Please be sure to thank them for their leadership when you see them at our weekly luncheons.

This Week's Meeting
On Wednesday, November 16, we will celebrate the 60th anniversary of The Rotary Club of Naples. We will NOT have a luncheon this day. Instead, we will meet at the Naples Beach Hotel near the chickee (outside of Sunset Terrace) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Tropical attire is appropriate. For those coming directly from work, it is also perfectly fine to be dressed in work attire. Food will be displayed starting at 5 p.m. Drinks will be available at a cash bar. Spouses are encouraged to attend, as are guests. If you know someone who may possibly be interested in Rotary, this is a perfect event for that person to attend!
The cost is $30/person (active members who make reservations will receive a $20 credit on their January invoice due to the November 16 luncheon we will not have). The cost for members and guests will be billed directly to members' accounts.
Reservations must be made in advance by contacting Jennifer Hoy (email: jennifervear@aol.com, cell phone: 450-8090). We hope to see everyone there!
October Billing
- October invoices will be 45 days past due on November 16. Those who are on the Accounts Receivable report 45 days past due should expect a reminder email from our Executive Secretary, Sue Cobb, as well as a reminder phone call from our Treasurer, Steve Stolz. The Board of Directors will also be made aware of the Accounts Receivable status of these individuals at our next board meeting.
District Conference Cruise
- The 2012 District 6960 Conference will be a 4 night cruise on the Celebrity Millennium from April 12th to 16th. The ship leaves Miami on Thursday, April 12 at 4:30 p.m., visits Key West and Cozumel, and then returns to Miami on Monday, April 16 at 7 a.m. Rotarians will do a service project in Cozumel. The Rotary Club of Naples has budgeted $1,800 toward the cruise, which will be divided equally among all members who make reservations for the cruise. For example, if six members (and their spouses) make reservations for the cruise, each Rotarian would be reimbursed $300 by the club. Prices start from as low as $549.51 per person (including all taxes, fees, prepaid gratuities, meals, entertainment, and special conference events). To book reservations, call VIP World Travel at 941-377-0017. Please let Sue Cobb know about your reservation as soon as it has been made (no later than December 31, 2011) so that we can plan for reimbursements.

Grapes & Apes
- The second round of ticketing is now active. Please tell your friends they can purchase tickets at the discounted price of $75 per person only until December 24th. Tickets can be purchased online, by phone, mail or by picking up tickets from Jim Scartz. After the deadline all tickets will be sold at the $100 face value starting January 1st.
