Steve is a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones Investments which is a full service investment firm.

He grew up in Urbana, Illinois and still cheers on his alma mater - The Fighting Illini!  Steve and his wife Dina have two boys.  Matt (23) is in his third year of Optometry School in Ft. Lauderdale and Josh (21) is about to complete (Steve hopes) his Graphics Communication degree at Clemson.

Steve enjoys water sports, playing golf but mostly attempts to stay in shape because Dina, a personal trainer at Pelican Bay's Community Center, continuously reminds him that too many bowls of ice cream really does not build muscle.

October Is Vocational Service Month

Greetings!

October is designated as "Vocational Service Month" by Rotary International.  Vocational Service promotes ethics in business and recognizes the worth of all professions.  One of the hallmarks of Rotary is the vocational diversity of its membership. The Rotary Club of Naples celebrates Vocational Service in two ways.

Vocational Day:

As you should already know, Vocational Day will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2011.  Instead of meeting at the Naples Beach Hotel for our typical luncheon that day, we split up and meet at several businesses around town.  These local businesses have a full hour to showcase what they do in the community.

Please do NOT show up at the Naples Beach Hotel on October 12!

You should have already signed up for one of three locations:

  • Philharmonic Center for the Arts
  • Whole Foods
  • John Collins Auto Parts

As a reminder, the meeting time at each location will be 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.  Please show up at your designated location since plans for catering were made in advance.

Rotarians In Business:

"Rotarians In Business" is a FREE opportunity for members in our club who are actively in business to share with the club what they do professionally.  The goal is to provide a forum for matching providers and consumers of products and services, creating a win-win benefit for both.

If you offer products or services that could benefit other members in our club, please contact project chair Rich Ahrens with the details.  Rotarians In Business is a unique benefit for members of the Rotary Club of Naples.

Have a fun time at Vocational Day!

Yours in Rotary Service,

Frank

This Week's Meeting

Topic:  Vocational Day
  • Please report to the business you signed up in advance for as there is not meeting at the hotel this week.

Invoices

  • Invoices were emailed by our Executive Secretary, Sue Cobb, on October 6.  If you did not receive your invoice, please email Sue at sue@bookkeepingbysuzanne.com or call her at 239-537-1133.  Thank you in advance for your prompt payment.

District Conference Cruise

  • The 2012 District 6960 Conference will be a 4 night cruise on the Celebrity Millennium from April 12th to 16th.  The ship leaves Miami on Thursday, April 12 at 4:30 p.m., visits Key West and Cozumel, and then returns to Miami on Monday, April 16 at 7 a.m.  Rotarians will do a service project in Cozumel.  The Rotary Club of Naples has budgeted $1,800 toward the cruise, which will be divided equally among all members who make reservations for the cruise.  For example, if six members (and their spouses) make reservations for the cruise, each Rotarian would be reimbursed $300 by the club.  Prices start from as low as $549.51 per person (including all taxes, fees, prepaid gratuities, meals, entertainment, and special conference events).  To book reservations, call VIP World Travel at 941-377-0017.  Please let Sue Cobb know about your reservation as soon as it has been made (no later than November 30, 2011) so that we can plan for reimbursements.

Grapes & Apes

  • At last week's meeting, we discussed our plans for Grapes & Apes 2012 and after the meeting free shirts were distributed to members. These shirts are not for the event but are for you to wear NOW to promote ticket sales. Please wear yours to the hardware store (you know which one), the health club, or anywhere you go so people can see the billboard on your back. If you did not get a shirt, please contact Nick Jaksich or Jason Shimko to get one for free.

Dictionary Day

  • Sign up sheets are still available for our annual Dictionary Day on the morning of October 28. We will provide a free dictionary to every third grader at Lake Park Elementary, Pelican Marsh Elementary and Poinciana Elementary Schools. It only takes about an hour of your time and is a very rewarding experience. If you want to participate, please email Jacques Groenteman with your name and the school where you would like to serve.

Plan to arrive between 11:45 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.  Enter the facility by the main entrance by the ticket booth.  Once you walk inside, a member of the staff will greet you and direct you to the meeting room.  The tour will begin around 12:00 p.m. with lunch and a lecture to follow.  The program will end around 1 p.m.

Whole Foods Market:

9101 Strada Place

Naples, FL 34108

We will be spending time at Whole Foods, located at the Mercato in Naples.  Plan to arrive between 11:45 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.  We will be meeting in the Lifestyle Center (located at the South side of the building).  There will be a tour of the facility followed by a lunch and lecture by the Whole Foods staff.  The program will begin at 12 p.m. and will end around 1 p.m.
