The Four-Way Test

Greetings!

As you should be well aware by now, our luncheon on September 7 has been cancelled.  The Naples Beach Hotel is replacing their air conditioning system.  We will be back in the swing of things on September 14 when we will meet in the Sunset Terrace, our "normal" room on the Gulf of Mexico side of the resort.

At the end of each luncheon, we conclude by standing and reciting The Four-Way Test.  When Randy Long was president in 2008-2009, this is how he ended each meeting.  Reciting The Four-Way Test every week during Randy's year helped me to learn it.  Thanks, Randy!

The Four-Way Test was created in 1932 by Herbert J. Taylor as an "ethical yardstick" for his employees.  The words are simple, but brilliant.

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Imagine if people always lived their lives according to The Four-Way Test.  What if businesses were always run this way?  It is amazing how much wisdom is contained in only a few well-chosen words.

Take some time to ponder The Four-Way Test.  What does it mean to you?  When we recite The Four-Way Test together every Wednesday, think about how it has stood the test of time.  Look around the room; you are surrounded by a group of professionals who share this "ethical yardstick".

Yours in Rotary Service,

Frank

Grapes & Apes

  • Last week the event coordinators, zone leaders and committee chairs met to kick off planning and production for this coming March. There were 26 people in attendance which should give you an idea of the magnitude of the tasks ahead. If you are interested in helping with a specific area of responsibility, please email or speak to one of the following committee chairs.  Everyone is expected to work at the event on March 24, 2012 but your help preparing in the months to come will also be appreciated.

  • The good news is that our last Gift of Life recipient, Gabrielle Bennett of Jamaica, has healed! The bad news for us is that we didn't get to meet the baby or her mother or have them at our club. To get a little better acquainted, Mia Delk has put up a gallery of images. Please click on it to see them.
